IC design house MediaTek could achieve monthly shipments of seven million handset chips in the fourth quarter of 2006, climbing from 5.5 million units in the third quarter, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, citing estimates by market analysts.
In addition, MediaTek will start shipping LCD TV-use chips to a South Korea-based vendor later this month, the paper indicated, noting that the shipments will undergo a major expansion between the first and second quarters of 2007. LCD-TV solutions will likely account for more than 12% of MediaTek‘s revenues next year, up from about 5% in the second quarter of 2006, according to the paper.
