Mediatek revenues increase 38% in August

Taiwan-based IC designer Mediatek has reported a 38.6% sequential increase in revenues to NT$5.35 billion (US$162.7 million) for August, with market sources indicating that the company has already raised its third-quarter growth forecast to 15-20%.
The company did not offer a breakdown of its sales for August, but the sources attributed the strong growth to record handset chip shipments and strong demand for the PC-use optical storage sector. The sources revealed that Mediatek‘s handset chip shipments topped 5.5 million units in August.
