拥有 Gmail 并非像拥有 LV
一样，那根本不是一种时尚流行的表征。一件东西之所以称的上有用，在于它可以被妥善使用！！仔细想想每个人可能都拥有有一台以上的计算机、一个以上的电子邮件账号，外加拥有许多个免费的
web mail 账号。
拥有 Gmail 并非像拥有 LV
一样，那根本不是一种时尚流行的表征。一件东西之所以称的上有用，在于它可以被妥善使用！！仔细想想每个人可能都拥有有一台以上的计算机、一个以上的电子邮件账号，外加拥有许多个免费的
web mail 账号。
要是家里有一台桌上型计算机、一台笔记型计算机，公司还有一台桌上型计算机的话，连同各种 web mail
的邮件加一加，所有电子邮件数据的容量可能动轧超过四、五百MB！！
原则上我打算这样使用我的 Gmail 账号:
1.将自己手上上百MB的电子邮件上传到 Gmail。这样一来可以方便集中储存与整理、搜寻。
2.当成网络硬盘使用 。目前应该不会有哪家的网络硬盘服务比 Gmail 还大的吧。
3.当成网络笔记使用。

一、将自己手上上百MB的电子邮件上传到 Gmail。
要是这些电子邮件可以汇集到 Gmail 里面，透过 Gmail 强而有力的搜寻、超大的容量，那么就可以在这个信息爆炸的时代妥善管理的个人的数字数据了。
Mark Lyon 所设计的 Mbox & Maildir to Gmail Loader (GML)
基本上拯救了这个信息世界。透过他的这项工具，可以非常简便的方式把妳所拥有的好几百MB的电子邮件一股脑送到自己专属的Gmail账号之中！！
由于这支程序目前只可以吃Netscape/Mozilla的mbox邮件格式，所以第一步必须先将自己的电子邮件转换成mbox格式才行，不过这并不难。安装一下Netscape或Mozilla，透过里面所附的邮件软件就可以帮你将Outlook/Outlook
Express的邮件转换成mbox格式。转好之后，您只要在这里: "C:\Documents and
Settings\\ApplicationData\Mozilla\Profiles\(profilename)\Mail\Local
Folders"就可以找到所需的档案，里面那些没有附档名的档案就是 mbox 格式的邮件信箱档。
而使用麦金塔计算机的玩家，那就更加简单了，系统内建的 Mail 程序本身就以 mbox 格式存档，因此您只要在
"/Users/(username)/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/" 目录下就可以找到附档名为.mbx的档案了。
使用Windows系统的玩家可以从 Mark Lyon 的网站上，下载 gml.zip 档案；使用麦金塔计算机的玩家则请下载 gml.tar 档案。
以下步骤分成Window环境与Mac环境，请依需要参照使用。
Windows:
1.解开 gml.zip。
2.从 "C:\Documents and
Settings\\ApplicationData\Mozilla\Profiles\\Mail\Local Folders"
复制要上传的邮件信箱档案。
3.进入DOS环境，输入: gml.exe mbox "pathtomboxfiles\mboxfilename"
yourgmailn...@gmail.com。
Mac:
1.将 gml.tar 解开到桌面，更改权限为 755。接着就完全不用理这支python程序了，因为下面的 AppleScript
会帮我们将后续处理自动化!!
2.到这儿下载一个 AppleScript。点选页面中所指示的连结即可直接在Script Editor中开启。
3.打开之后，依照指示修改这几个 AppleScript 变量，请将 (user) 代换成您自己的变量:
-- Your Gmail email address
property myGMailAddress : "(user)@gmail.com"
-- Path to your Mailboxes
property mymailboxpath : "/Users/(user)/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/"
--Path to the downloaded gml.py file

4.在Script Editor中按Run执行。你有几个信箱，AppleScript就会帮您开几个unix shell自动上传!!

怎么说呢？Mac永远比人家简单吧。

接着就可以看着一封一封的电子邮件送到你的 Gmail 账号之中了。另外，必须注意的是，因为 Gmail 电子邮件的邮递时间将会是邮件送达
Gmail 的时间，如果您将去年、前年的信件上传的话，所显示的时间将会是上传当刻的现在时间，而非去年的时间！！
至于 Hotmail 或 Yahoo 的使用者可以透过一些工具将电子邮件下载到 Outlook 里面，然后遵循上述的转档方式将档案转成
mbox 格式之后依序上传即可。
上传完毕之后，登入 Gmail 我看到的是:
You are currently using 152 MB (15%) of your 1000 MB.
二、当成网络硬盘使用 。
步骤相当简单。只要妥善运用网络上流传的两项 Gmail 密技即可。这两招分别是:
* 如果你的 Gmail 账号是: yourgmai...@gmail.com，则您可以在 yourgmailid
的文字中间任意加上一个小数点。也就是说: winsoncafe@gmail = winson.cafe@gmail。
* 在 yourgmailid 与 @gmail.com 之间补上一个 "+" 号后，可以填补任意的文字进去。也就是说:
winsoncafe+b...@gmail.com = winsonc...@gmail.com。
开一个叫做 Backup 的标签 (label)。建一个过滤器 (filter)，并设定为当我将邮件送到
winsoncafe+bac...@gmail.com 之后，自动归档到 Backup
标签之下。一旦我要备份文件时，我只要发一封电子邮件寄到我自己的 winsoncafe+bac...@gmail.com 账号就可以了。
三、当成网络笔记使用。
原理其实相当类似，开一个叫做 Notes 的标签。建一个过滤器，并设定为当我将邮件送到 winsoncafe+n...@gmail.com
之后，自动归档到 Notes 标签之下。一旦我撰写小笔记时，我只要发一封电子邮件寄到我自己的
winsoncafe+n...@gmail.com 账号就可以了。

Features
Downloading All Mail The user will be able to download a copy of every
message from their Gmail account. It will be organized and labeled
just as it is on the server. Your filters will still be in effect.
Messages All actions that Gmail provides will be available. Archiving,
Trashing, Labeling, ‘Deleting Forever,‘ Marking read & unread, and
starring. The full message bodies will be viewable inside the program.
Message Forwarding There have been many programs trying to allow users
to forward their old mail into Gmail. GmailerXP will allow the user to
do this from a number of formats, ‘mbox‘ and ‘pst‘ being among them.
Starring I personally do not really use this feature, but it will be
available in a very similar interface as Gmail.
Filters Users will be able to manage their filters, (Create new, Edit,
Delete). Gmail allows for 20 filters, some have said a few more.
GmailerXP will give the user two options- either use the filters on
Gmail and then when they run out, start making filters locally, Option
2- do away with their online filters completely, and use the local
ones only which will intercept all incoming mail and label it and move
it accordingly. Local filters may have a few more options than the
standard Gmail ones.
Labels The user will be able to manage labels, and bulk delete if they
so choose. They can create new labels, edit existing ones, and delete
at will.
Contacts The user will be able to manage contacts, and do all
operations already provided by Gmail (Adding, Editing, Deleting) as
well as import contacts from a number of different formats. The user
will also be able to export (backup) their contacts to a number of
different formats.
Settings & Preferences All of the user‘s preferences and settings
(Signature, Display Name, and Reply-To Address) will be manageable
from within GmailerXP; The user will also be able to change their
Gmail password if they so choose.
Sending Messages The user will be able to compose and send new mail.
The mail will be saved in their Gmail account under sent messages.
Drafts The user will be able to save drafts locally. Now even though
Gmail hasn‘t come out with this feature yet, GmailerXP will save the
‘drafts‘ locally and they can be used just as if they were on the
server.
Multiple Accounts GmailerXP will support multiple accounts, (even
though Gmail discourages such behavior ) The user will be able to
switch between accounts whilst using the program.
Stats The user‘s Disk quota and space used information will be visible
at all times to the user.
Notification GmailerXP will notify the user of all incoming messages
as they arrive with a ballon tooltip that when clicked will open the
program and point the user to the message.
