Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has urged local officials to improve their work to help the common people during an inspection tour to the southwest municipality of Chongqing from Dec. 6 to 8.
Officials should be mindful of the common people and do more to improve their livelihoods, Xi said, while visiting Bailin Village, Zengjia Township of Shapingba District and a resident's home in Jiangbei District, Chongqing.
"Only in this way can solutions to the problems (in work concerning the common people) be found," Xi said, while visiting the resident's home in Jiangbei District.
He encouraged local authorities to build more houses for low-income groups, as well as carry out other work to raise the standard of living of the poor.
During his visit to Chongqing Bonded Harbor Area in Liangjiang New Area, Xi urged the area to play an exemplary role in boosting local economic growth.
Further, Xi praised Chongqing's authorities on cracking down on criminal gangs and safeguarding social safety.
