Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite in Beijing Tuesday and vowed to boost technological cooperation in lasers, biology and clean energy fields.
"China appreciates Lithuania's support for the Shanghai Expo, and congratulates Lithuania on the full success of the National Pavilion Day celebrations," Xi told Grybauskaite, who was in China for the Lithuanian National Pavilion Day on Monday.
Grybauskaite said the success of the Shanghai Expo had once again demonstrated China's rapid development and good image.
Xi hailed the sound momentum of bilateral ties, citing frequent high-level exchanges, enhanced mutual understanding and trust and sound coordination in international organizations.
"China values its relations with Lithuania, and appreciates the country's positive attitude towards developing cooperation with China," Xi said, calling on joint efforts to step up bilateral cooperation and coordination in global affairs.
He also expressed appreciation for Lithuania's adherence to the one-China policy.
The two sides agreed to enhance substantial cooperation in areas such as new energies, trade and agriculture, and cement cultural exchanges to strengthen friendship and understanding among peoples.
Grybauskaite, who served as EU Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget from 2004 to 2009, said her country was committed to boosting Lithuania-China as well as Europe-China relations.
