誤解：你想賣什麽東西?

原意：你的目的何在?

說明："What are you going to sell?"是習語，意爲"你的目的何在? "，"你葫蘆里賣什麼藥?"

Where is your cap?

誤解：你的帽子在哪里?

原意：你的禮貌到哪去了?

說明："Where is your cap?"是對小孩進行禮帽教育時說的話。

He has a weakness for wine.

誤解：他不善於喝酒。

原意：他特別喜歡喝酒。

說明：本例中的weakness(名詞)，意爲“嗜好”，“迷戀”，不是“弱點”，“缺點”。

She spent a small fortune on a tour round the world.

誤解：她花了一筆小錢環遊世界。

原意：她花了一筆大錢環遊世界

說明：a small fortune 是口語，意爲 " 大筆錢"、"鉅資"。

Only the well-to-do people can afford these houses.

誤解：只有積極工作的人才能買得起這些房子。

原意：只有富有的人才能買得起這些房子。

說明："well-to-do"是一個合成形容詞，意思是"富裕的、富有的"。

例句：She can dish it out, but she cannot take it. 她可以批評別人，卻無法忍受別人對她的批評。

            She likes to dish out advice. 她喜歡沒完沒了提忠告。
