The United States on Sunday thanked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its help in disrupting a terrorist plot by uncovering Friday a explosives-laden parcel bound for the United States.

President Barack Obama's top advisor for homeland security and counterterrorism John Brennan called UAE Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayid to "express strong appreciation for the outstanding work of UAE authorities in disrupting a terrorist plot that involved concealed explosive devices, including one found in Dubai," the White House said.

It added: "Brennan conveyed the president's sincere appreciation to the UAE for the excellent cooperation between our countries on counterterrorism and other security matters."

The other explosives-filled parcel, bound as well for synagogues in Chicago, was intercepted Friday at Britain's East Midlands Airport on a tip-off from Saudi Arabia. The two parcels were both from Yemen.

Obama said investigators had discovered a "credible terrorist threat" against the United States. He accused al-Qaida in the Arabian peninsula, the terrorist group based in Yemen, of continuing to plan attacks against "our homeland, our citizens, and our friends and allies," vowing to boost cooperation with the Yemeni government to disrupt the plotting and destroy the al-Qaida affiliate.

Brennan told ABC TV network on Sunday that the Obama administration "can't presume that we have identified all of the packages that are out there" from Yemen.

"What we're trying to do now is work very closely with our partner overseas to identify all packages that left Yemen recently and to see whether there are any other suspicious packages out there that might contain these IEDs (improvised explosive devices), " he told ABC's "This Week" program.
