France welcomes Britain's new security strategy, saying "favorable" to "be fully engaged" in fields of defense and security, the French presidency said Tuesday in a statement.

The Elysee Palace said France is willing to be engaged as " distinctive partnership in the field of defense and security" as proposed by British Prime Minister David Cameron.

"The decisions announced are courageous and show the will of the United Kingdom to assume its full responsibilities in the service of international security and that of our Allies. This desire is shared by France," the statement said.

It also promised close bilateral cooperation for the "success of the forthcoming Franco-British summit."

Cameron on Tuesday unveiled the Strategic Defense and Security Review (SDSR) to the parliament, which includes efforts in reinforcing cooperation with France, the United States and other NATO allies.
