American citizens abusing the welfare system: Your reactions
byNicole Robinson
I have lived in Massachusetts my entire life and although most people do not agree with our politics I always have, that is until recently. Deval Patrick has just passed a law that will give "donated" cars, like that makes a difference, to welfare recipients. Not only will these recipients receive a car they will also get it registered and insured for a year with AAA included.I am absolutely appalled and disgusted by this law, while our sales taxes and real estate taxes are being raised, people who do not even contribute to these tax dollars are receiving benefits that not even taxpayers do.
I am not fond of the welfare system, however years ago I believed that this system was put in place to help people. However, now I realize that most people are using this system as a way of life and it is ridiculous. When we passed the reform act in 96 this was all supposed to change. However, it has not, all at. Two years and people were supposed to get jobs, education, and get off the system. I know first hand this is not true at all. I know a woman who has been on the system for fourteen years, has never worked a day in her life and just continues to have children with everything payed for. She now has four children, lives in a five bedroom house, with a jacuzzi, all new furniture and appliances (hence her 50 inchflat screen TV), all on the tax payers dollars. This to me is absolutely ridiculous! Meanwhile I have been on my own since I was sixteen, have put myself through college, never had any type of funding from the state and can barely pay my bills.
I am for a system that helps people but not when it is draining funds out of hardworking people, not when people are allowed to abuse the system. What is even worse is when people say, "well if I could abuse the system I would", and people try to put blame on the system. Where is the responsibility for these people? Does that mean that if you could get away with murder you would? RIDICULOUS.
I have worked hard for my money and will be moving out of this state at the end of the year because this new law has made me ashamed of what was once a home that I loved. How is it that the people that work the least, make poor choices, and have even worse behavior get the most reward? Meanwhile the middle class is slowly dissipating because of the drain of this faulty system. While hardworking people are losing their jobs, houses, and savings all theses people have to do is wait for a check and a new car? God Bless America!
