Introduction
The journal printer supplies a detailed audit of all consumer transactions or printed messages configured by the bank or institution. The printed messages could include time, date, type of transaction, and certain status messages generated by the terminal.
The information in this manual is specific to the journal printer. Refer to the appropriate terminal manual for more information about the journal printer.
Safety Precautions
Diebold recommends strict observance of safety precautions when servicing the printer. Observing safety precautions reduces the risk of equipment damage and personal injury.
WARNING
You must observe the following precautions when servicing the journal printer to avoid risk of equipment damage, severe personal injury, or death:
Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can become jammed in the equipment.
Use caution to prevent long hair from getting caught in the equipment.
Never insert screwdrivers, pens, or other instruments into the module (unless expressly instructed to do so in this document). Severe bodily injury, death from electrical shock, or equipment damage can result.
Always turn OFF the terminal before removing or installing modules.
Beginning and Ending a Maintenance Session
Refer to the appropriate terminal operating manual for the following procedures:
Opening the top chassis (front-load cash dispensers)
Opening access doors and top chassis (rear-load cash dispensers)
Placing the terminal in supply mode
Returning the terminal to operating mode
Maintenance Procedures
Prerequisite Information
To perform the procedures described in this section, you should know how to perform the following procedures (refer to the appropriate terminal operating guide):
Open the terminal to access the journal printer
Place the terminal in the appropriate mode for maintenance
Return the terminal to full operation
WARNING

Replacing the Journal Paper Roll
Perform the following procedure to replace the roll of journal paper. Refer toFigure 2-1 throughFigure 2-5 during this procedure.
Press the blue lever down to open the printer cover.
Pull up the white spindle, releasing it from the printer.
If there is still some paper on the roll, tear it to release the paper roll. If there is no paper left, just pull out the spindle.

To remove the paper from the spindle, just pull it outwards in the opposite direction of the gear (Figure 2-2).

Open the printer cover completely, pulling it backwards.
Remove the paper roll or paper tube left in the paper roll compartment (located just below the printer cover).
Insert the paper roll with the paper coming from below (Figure 2-3) and push the paper out about 40 cm (16"). Make sure that the printable side is facing down.

Close the printer cover by pressing the printer cover completely down until it clicks. The blue lever will come up to a fully vertical position. The printer will print several line feeds.
Draw the paper over the printer cover.
At the edge of the paper, fold about 5 cm (2 in) of the paper inwards to have a clean edge.
Insert the edge of paper into the spindle slot (Figure 2-4). It is recommended that the paper be wound onto the spindle for a minimum of 3 to 4 turns.

Insert the spindle into the winder unit until it clicks into place.
Stretch the paper by manually winding the spindle (Figure 2-5).

The journal printer is now ready for use. Refer to the appropriate terminal operating guide to close the terminal.
