The third Sino-British Internet Roundtable was jointly held by the China's State Council Information Office and the U.K. Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in London on Nov. 22. Almost 100 people from government offices, academic institutions, Internet industry organizations and well-known Internet companies attended the forum.

Wang Chen, minister of China's State Council Information Office, Ed Vaizey, the U.K. Minister for Communications, Culture and Creative Industries and Chinese ambassador Liu Xiaoming attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Wang Chen in his speech elaborated on China's policies regarding the Internet. He introduced the latest aspects of the development of the Internet in China, noted the rising number of Chinese Internet users as well as the increasing scale of online business transactions and relayed other data and facts. He said that the Internet in China is thriving and contributing to the growing Chinese economy.

Wang also put forward suggestions on the enhancement of communication and cooperation on the Internet between China and Britain. He proposed a four-point proposal, which includes jointly supporting Internet technology innovation, cooperation between bilateral reporting agencies and promoting Internet industry organizations.

Ed Vaizey emphasized in the keynote speech that China and Britain need to enhance exchanges and cooperation in the field of the Internet. Both nations should continue to give full play to this good platform of Sino-British Internet Roundtable. They should also discuss the development trends of information technology and the opportunities and challenges that are presented by the major changes of Internet technology.

The theme of the roundtable is "win-win cooperation," which covered cloud computing, digital Intellectual Property Rights, mobile internet content on 3G/4G platforms and Internet business opportunities.
