China's education exhibition held in Sri Lanka

The two-day Chinese Education Exhibition opened on Friday, which is the first such exhibition ever held in the country.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Secretary-General of China Scholarship Council Liu Jinghui said the exhibition will provide a direct and effective channel for the exchange of students between the two nations.
She said that over 230,000 international students studied in China in the year 2009, and 901 are from Sri Lanka with 165 enjoying Chinese government's scholarships.
Thirty-six renowned Chinese Universities and Colleges covering the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Language, Culture, Commerce, Science and technology attended the exhibition.
The exhibition is jointly sponsored by China Scholarship Council and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka with the Sri Lanka-China Young Journalists' Forum being the organizer.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Sri Lankan Education Minister Bandula Gunawardhana, Deputy Higher Education Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake, among other senior officials.
