现时的英文圣经译本种类繁多，被人普遍使用的也不少。简单来说，现时的英文译本可分为六类：
1. 按文意翻译(Dynamic Equivalent)的译本，包括New International Version (NIV)、New International Reader’s Version (NIrV)及The Jerusalem Bible (JB)。
New International Version (NIV) NIV是重新用原文翻译的译本，由超过来自世界各地的英语国家的一百多个福音派(Evangelical)圣经学者合力译成。它的特色是融合直译与意译方法，把原作者的思想以英语表达出来，一方面能保留原文的神髓，另一方面又能使读者明白原意，是很适合个人研读之用的译本。这译本自1987年起便越过KJV成为最畅销之圣经译本。
New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) 这是一本较「简易」的NIV读本，NIrV的特色是它用有限的词语，以简单的短句表达，就算是小学生也能明白。所以这译本很适合英语程度较低的人阅读。
The Jerusalem Bible (JB) JB可以说是第一本用原文翻译成的天主教圣经，该译本有新旧约外，也有次经及伪经，还有非常丰富的辅助资料，对了解经文意思非常有帮助。不过译者持天主教信仰的立场翻译，与基督教译本稍有差别。
2. 采直译方法(Literal)的译本，例如New King James Version (NKJV)。
New King James Version (NKJV) NKJV是由近代普遍使用的King James Version (KJV)修订、以字义释经的原则翻译而成。此译本重新用现代流行的美式英语翻译，比KJV更容易使人明白。虽然新版本修正了不少KJV的错误，但它仍沿用旧版的希腊文本(Greek Text)——Textus Receptus，以致NKJV不同于其他用较新的希腊文本翻译成的圣经。
3. 用纯粹直译方法(Strictly Literal)的译本，例如New American Standard Bible (NASB)。
New American Standard Bible (NASB) NASB循□American Standard Bible的特色，按照原文的字面意义、文句结构完全直译，所以该译本的字义准确，然而所使用的英语却较为生硬、不自然。此译本适用于圣经研究，多于日常诵读。
4. 直译中又合符惯用语(Literal with Freedom to be idiomatic)的译 本，例如New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)。
New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) NRSV不仅采用字义直译的方法，也容许使用一些日常惯用的英语翻译，这是与NKJV及NASB有所不同。NRSV最特别的是它避免了直译一些带有男性化的词语，例如在保罗书信中称呼所有信徒为「弟兄」(brothers)，在NRSV则译成「弟兄姊妹」(brothers and sisters)或「朋友」(friends)，这也是因应时代的不同而作出的一些修改。
5. 以现代语言意会原文信息(Dynamic Equivalent with Modern Speech)的译本， 例如Today’s English Version (TEV)。
Today’s English Version (TEV) TEV是一本受美国人欢迎的英文圣经译本。TEV用Dynamic-Equivalence的译经原则，使读者可以亲切地感受到原文的意思。TEV的特色透过浅白而常用的英语，把经文的原意表达出来，所以这是适合闲时阅读的译本。
6. 非按原文字眼意译的译本(Paraphrastic)，例如New Living Translation (NLT)。
New Living Translation (NLT) NLT是The Living Bible的重新修订本，由超过九十个福音派学者花了七年译成。他们根据原文圣经，以现代人常用的词语表达原作者的意思，而不直接翻译原作者所写的字眼，因此译文比较现代化，也能找到作者原意。然而这译本保留The Living Bible的风格，故不适用于严谨、学术性的圣经研究。
九十年代，英文圣经也出现了两个新译本，就是Contemporary English Version (CEV)及The Message。
Contemporary English Version (CEV) CEV于1994年完成。CEV是一本为朗读圣经及聆听圣经的人而设的译本。译者认为，圣经主要是读得顺畅、听得舒服，因为福音也是用口传开的。所以CEV的特色是不仅注重原文翻译，在词语的选用、语句的结构、段落的排列等也配合朗读者抑扬顿挫的表达与听者聆听时的感受。例如现代人较少用的概念式词语「救恩」(Salvation)，就用「神拯救你」(God saves you)这些较具体化的现代英语表达。
The Message The Message是现时较新的英文新约译本（1994年出版）。译者是当了35年的牧者Eugene H. Peterson。他认为逐字直译的译本不能传递圣经原有的神髓，必须用日常生活中常用的英语表达出来，就是在街上、餐厅、学校常说的语言(Street Language)，听起来既易明又传神。
