Chinese officials attending an executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet, agreed Wednesday to further carry out work in areas such as reducing polluting emissions and promoting the stable and healthy development of the property market during the last quarter of 2010.

The final quarter would be important in completing the tasks set during China's 11th Five-Year Plan and also to pave the way for China's 12th Five-Year Plan, according to a statement released after the meeting, which was held Wednesday and presided over by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

Further, China would work to maintain order in the grain market by effectively carrying out the purchase of autumn grains. Meanwhile, efforts would be made to encourage farmers to grow winter wheat, stabilize prices of agricultural production materials, and prevent epidemic diseases.

Also, policies concerning energy saving and emissions reductions would not be relaxed during the last quarter as the country aims to achieve its energy efficiency target set in the 11th Five-Year Plan.

Measures would be taken to stabilize prices, as practices such as hoarding and illegal price hikes would be severely punished, the statement said.

China would beef up construction of affordable housing for middle-and-low income earners while curbing price jumps in some major cities as the government seeks the stable and healthy development of the property market.

Officials at the meeting also stressed worker safety issues and prevention of major accidents.

Further, efforts would be made to ensure that wages due to migrant workers are fully paid and people's standards of living continue to improve.
