The Lake House review by Gerry Shamray

"The Lake House" is a love story with a "Twilight Zone" bent. The obstacle that separates the romantic pair in this bittersweet tale is time - precisely two years.

After a man dies in her arms, a doctor (Sandra Bullock) takes some down time at a beautiful and unique house on the lake. She leaves a note in the mailbox for the owner, an architect (Keanu Reeves), who responds.

Via their paper correspondence, the two debate the year: She claims it is 2006, he contends it's '04. They come to believe both are right, thanks to the strange magic in the mailbox.

More importantly, as they continue writing, they fall in love, though they don't know how to meet in the same space and time.

Fans of poetic and romantic films, such as "Somewhere in Time," will be deeply smitten by this loving fantasy. Others will likely find it silly and not enjoy their stay.

Reeves and Bullock displayed such great chemistry in 1994's "Speed" that it is a mystery why it took them 12 years to reconnect on film. "The Lake House" proves their screen reunion was worth the wait.
