209：一个美籍华裔少年对中国的观感

（有几个网友建议，让我儿子写一下他到中国后的观感。我同他说了，他就写了。写好后在我这放了一个多月，今天晚上我把它翻译出来。有些地方翻译不好，请大家指教。我儿子在美国出生，今年14岁，刚刚上高一，我叫他羊羊 ）
中国对我来说并不陌生。我去过那里六次了，看望我们的亲戚，同时度假。通过这些，我开始了解中国并爱上了中国。我爱中国的许多东西，同时，尽管我爱中国，但中国也有一些东西令我烦恼。
China is a place that is not unfamiliar to me.  I have been there six times to visit my relatives and also to vacation.  I have come to know and to love China.  There are many things that I love about that country.  However, there are also many things that I annoy me as well, even though I love China.
我爱中国的许多东西。首先，那当然是了不起的中国食品。我喜欢各种各样的食品，但我特别喜欢中国食品。各种各样的中国食品我都喜欢，从简单的炒菜，到最高档的北京烤鸭。现在，我还好象闻到了韩国烤肉的味道，而中国南方的辣味食品让我的嘴充满了辣味。
I love many things about China.  First of all, it has great food.  I love eating all kinds of food, but I especially like Chinese food.  I love everything from simple stir-fried vegetables to fancy Peking barbequed duck.  Korean barbequed meat just melts in my mouth.  Spicy food from Southern China explodes in my mouth with flavor.
第二，乡村是一个游览的美妙地方。我父亲的老家在辽宁的凤城。这个小镇在丹东和沈阳之间。它那里最吸引人的一个去处就是凤凰山。凤凰山，多么引人注目的美景。那里有溪流从山峰流下，山峰矗立在银色的云彩之中。那苍翠的绿色风光，不仅看起来美丽无比，并且使空气也让人倍感清新。即使追忆我在山间漫步，也令我充满了不可言说的喜悦。
Secondly, the countryside is a great place to visit.  My family on my Dad’s side lives in Feng Cheng, Liao Ning.  It’s a small town northwest of Dan Dong and southeast of Shen Yang.  Feng Cheng is a town with basically one main attraction- Feng Cheng mountain and what a sight it is.  There are rivers and streams that flow down from its peak, high in the silvery clouds.  The lush green scenery not only looks beautiful, but makes the air extraordinarily fresh.  Even recollecting hikes made on that mountain fills me with unspeakable joy.
第三，在中国，我喜欢步行是那么自然地与每一天的生命融为一体。在美国，主要的交通工具是汽车，无论你到哪里，你都要以车代步。在中国，生活似乎是建立在你要到处走之上。在中国的每一天，我都喜欢从叔叔家走到奶奶家。晚上在叔叔家睡觉，白天呆在奶奶家。我可以步行到饭店去吃饭，也可以走到游乐场，在那儿，我照料我的小侄小外甥，和他们一起玩。走路对于身体来说是一个很好的锻炼。在中国，我觉得我很健康。
Thirdly, I love how walking is so incorporated in everyday life.  Here in America, the main source of transportation is the car.  Anywhere we Americans go, we go in a car.  In China, life seems to be built around walking so much more.  Everyday in China, I would walk from my uncle’s apartment, where my family and I slept, to my grandma’s house, where we stayed.  I could walk to eat at a restaurant or walk to the playground where I would baby-sit and play with my nephew.  Walking is great exercise for the body.  I felt so healthy in China.
第四，我喜欢中国的厕所开始变化了，从茅坑变成了现代的厕所。我喜欢这一点基于两个理由。其一，现在使用的个人便盆比茅坑更能保持环境的清洁，在旧式茅坑那里，细菌会在里面生长并传播。而现代的便池，水会冲走所有的病菌和排泄物，从而令便盆实际上变得比一般厨房的洗涤槽还干净。其二，我一直认为，茅房真的很粗野，恶心，闻起来臭乎乎的，都臭得发霉了。
Fourthly, I like that China is starting to change its toilets from the pit to modern toilets.  I like this for two reasons, the former being practical and the latter personal.  Modern toilets are much more sanitary than the pit, where bacteria can grow and spread.  In modern toilets, water washes away all the germs and waste so that the bowl is actually cleaner than the average kitchen sink.  Secondly, I have always thought that the pit is just really gross, disgusting, and smells really funky and not funky fresh.
我喜欢中国的第五个理由是，中国是我的故乡，我承继的传统。我的父母来自中国，中国血流在我的血液中。每一天，当我照镜子或者看到自己的皮肤时，我总是记得，我是一个中国人，并对此毫无羞愧。实际上，我为自己来自这样一个伟大的国家而感到自豪，尽管我爱美国爱得更多。我为什么会这样，答案很简单：因为这是我的国家。尽管我来自中国，但中国不是我的国家，她是你们的，如果你是中国人。真的，我的父母喜欢住在中国，但我喜欢住在美国。尽管我非常非常喜欢中国，但我无法爱她就像爱自己的祖国一样。也许，你们会来到美国，并且住一段时间，那么，也请你写篇文章，谈谈你喜欢美国的什么地方。
The fifth reason that I like China is because it is my homeland and heritage.  My family originates from China and it flows in my blood.  I am reminded everyday that I am Chinese when I look in a mirror or at my skin.  However, I am not ashamed of it.  In fact, I am proud to come from such a great country.  Despite that, I still will always love the U.S. more.  The answer to why I would do such a thing is quite simple; it is my country.  True I come from China, but that is not my country, it is yours, if you are Chinese.  True, my family lives there, but I live here.  Even though I love China very, very much, I can never love it like my country.  Maybe if you come here to the United States of America and live here for a while, you can write an article on what you like about the U.S.A.
