Hu Jintao‘s Choice
The Chinese president is a fan of Daejanggeum, a Korean soap opera.
Chinese President Hu Jintao told Moon Hee-sang, the leader of the ruling Uri Party, last week it was a shame his busy schedule keeps him from watching every episode. Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo, No.2 in the party hierarchy, said in a private conversation that he enjoys watching "Daejanggeum" because his wife loves Korean TV soap operas. (Chosun Ilbo)
Not unexpected. Daejanggeum is packed with flashback which makes the soap opera unbearably long. Even if one does not start watching the drama until episode 20 or misses five episodes, the director has done an excellent job to ensure that each and every audience can follow. I should imagine the leaders of the Politburo, who spend their lives watching the CCTV and attending endless important conferences, would enjoy the rhythm of the drama.
Daejanggeum loves looking back.
