Beijing trade deficit rises 63 pct to $152 bln

Beijing, the Chinese capital, generated 243.2 billion U.S. dollars in foreign trade in the first 10 months of the year, a 42-percent year-on-year rise, the local customs house said Saturday.
The total included 45.4 billion U.S. dollars of exports, up 16.9 percent year on year, and 197.8 billion dollars of imports, up 49.3 percent.
The city's trade deficit increased 62.7 percent year on year in the period to 152.4 billion U.S. dollars.
Its trade with the European Union rose 28.6 percent year on year to 31.89 billion U.S. dollars while trade with ASEAN members increased 27.6 percent to 16.12 billion dollars.
Its trade with the United States jumped 26.7 percent year on year to 15.81 billion dollars while that with Japan climbed 28.9 percent to 15.04 billion dollars.
In the ten-month period, Beijing exported 27.75 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery and electronics, up 11.9 percent year on year, while it imported 53.58 billion U.S. dollars of the goods, up 29.2 percent.
