Security, speed, compliance, and flexibility--all of these describe LightTPD which is rapidly redefining efficiency of a webserver; as it is designed and optimized for high performance environments. With a small memory footprint compared to other web-servers, effective management of the cpu-load, and advanced feature set (FastCGI, CGI, Auth, Output-Compression, URL-Rewriting and many more) LightTPD is the perfect solution for every server that is suffering load problems. And best of all it‘s Open Source licensed under therevised BSD license.
"lightTPD is the BEST webserver out there, much faster than apache and much much much more flexible/configurable/secure than tux, and its fcgi php support is simply unbeatable."
- Viktors Rotanovs What‘s with the name?
Light footprint + httpd = LightTPD
If you prefer, call it just "Lighty". We want to keep your tongue intact. :)

Linux (binary packages for FC3, SuSE, Debian, Gentoo, PLD-Linux, OpenWRT) *BSD (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, MacOS X) SGI IRIX Windows (Cygwin)
while it is known to compile cleanly on
Solaris AIX
and various other POSIX compatible OSes.
Lighttpd Lovers
As usually, I must say that these problems are minor and lighttpd is the BEST webserver out there, much faster than apache and much much much more flexible/configurable/secure than tux, and its fcgi php support is simply unbeatable. Thanks for great work Jan and contributors! :) Viktors Rotanovs
I second that! Jan (and everyone who contributes to lighttpd) thank you very much. You made by far the best webserver in the world! Andy

sniff I‘m getting totaly emotional if I think about the merrits of useing a select based webserver vs. a prefork system. En not only that, but also the extra security and scalability of useing loadb. FCGI as backend for php.
I start to cry with joy when I realise than useing a chroot/jail is now finaly really possible without having to build a custom chroot for apache that not only hold the bloated intestins for apache but also all the bull that al the PHP-lib needed.
My day brightens again when I do a top, and see how small the memory footprint is that lighttpd consumes and am filled with joy when I realise that I can use lighttpd in the embedded system I‘m building.
I went home filled with joy of this small-is-beatifull filosophy at work, and try‘d to explain it to my girl-friend. Although she didn‘t really understand what I was talking about, she did get all wet!. But ‘No‘, I said, ‘Forking is against KISS‘.
KISS‘ing is God, and lighttpd is it‘s profet!

I use it for production-systems, and it‘s now my first choice for a webserver (if I have the luxury to be able to choose what webserver to use ). That‘s the biggest compliment I can give to a piece of software.
