The DETLEF HEGEMANN-GROUP of shipyards delivered with the "OSTSEE" a modern hopper dredger with extensive special outfit. The dredger is built as a 2-screw-diesel hopper dredger with 2 suction pipes and a hopper capacity of3600 m³. The ship was constructed according to the rules of the Germanischer Lloyd and has got the class notation:
GL 100 A5 M "Hopper Dredger" on internat. draught 4,95 m 100 A5 k "Hopper Dredger" on nat. draught 5,50 m + MC AUT
It is intended for service in inland waterways and harbours, for extraction of construction materials in coastal zones as well as for reclamation. The propulsive output of the two four-stroke diesel engines MAN B&W 6L 32/40 is transmitted to two controllable pitch propellers. Both dredger pumps used are single-step radial-impeller pumps. Their discharge is 6500 m³/h each (max.). The generously designed accommodations and working rooms located in the flexibly mounted deckhouse provide pleasant work-ing conditions and a high level of conveniences.

Following the success of the earlier Merwede-built H-series, South Coast Shipping Company of Southampton decided to design and build Sand Falcon and Sand Fulmar based on the same cargo handling concept. These vessels have a hopper capacity of 4,000 m3 and are capable of dredging sand, gravel or the full mixture at a depth of 33 m below keel. Dry unloading is possible by bucket wheel and conveyor belt; wet unloading by dredge pump and shore pipeline. The third option is straight dumping through eight bottom valves.

Taurus Aquarius and Libra are very powerful cutter suction dredgers of seagoing type, originally built for Zanen & Verstoep, now integrated in the Royal Boskalis Westminster Group. With their 3,680 kW cutter output and 2,210 kW under-water pump, they can dredge rocky material at a depth of up to 30 m. These vessels are self propelled. They are therefore flexible with regard to worldwide contracting.

With a hopper capacity of 18,000m³, the Amsterdam earns her place in the elite of jumbo trailer dredgers. A further development of predecessor Lelystad, she is built to a very high specification and fitted with an abundance of high-tech equipment in the field of integrated and automated dredging, propulsion and navigation systems. Her length of 156 m, breadth of 28 m, and depth of 11.85 m make her one of the largest vessels built at the Merwede yard. She was build for Anglo Dutch Dredging Company, the UK subsidiary of Ballast Nedam Dredging of the Netherlands and is now operated by van Oord.
