Google Maps Mobile新功能-实时交通式

新闻：（2006年7月25日 Search Engine Watch - Real-Time Traffic From Google Maps Mobile）Google Maps has rolled out a new mobile version offering real-time traffic information in 30 US cities. The service also offers directions designed for those who are walking, in addition to driving.[1]
评析：
现阶段Google所提供的服务中，有三类是与行动通讯产品（即手机）相关的服务，分别为”Maps for mobile”、”Mobile”与”SMS”，如图一所示。其中Mobile为提供手机使用者查询”网页（web）”与”图片（images）”，SMS为以简讯（short message）回复为主的查询方式，而Maps for mobile（以下称为Google Maps Mobile）即为Google Maps在手机上的应用。
Google Maps Mobile（http://www.google.com/gmm）虽然类似Google Maps功能，但是其特殊的”交通路况查询功能”已经为行动通讯运用走出一条崭新路，值得我们进一步讨论与往后追踪。
根据Google Maps Mobile网页的说明，其功能汇整如下[2]：
lDetailed directions: Whether you plan to walk or drive, your route is displayed on the map itself, together with step-by-step directions.（指引方向）
lIntegrated search results: Local business locations and contact information appear all in one place, integrated on your map.（整合检索结果与商店服务）
lEasily movable maps: Interactive, draggable maps let you zoom in or out, and move in all directions so you can orient yourself visually.（可简易使用之地图浏览功能）
lSatellite imagery: Get a bird‘s eye view of your desired location.（具卫星照片）
lReal-time traffic: See where the congestion is, and estimate delays in over 30 major US metropolitan areas.（实时路况展示）
上述服务描述中，前四点均为Google Maps网络版之基本功能，不同点仅在于该服务被移植到手机行动载具上，并且针对手机的操作界面（以数字键键盘为主的操作方式）进行使用者界面（User Interface, UI）的新设计。但是第五项”Real-time traffic”（实时路况展示）却是Google Maps Mobile特有的功能（亦即Google Maps无此功能），亦即方便手机使用者查询美国三十个主要都市的实时路况，并能依此估算塞车延误时间。Google Maps Mobile走出了以计算机为使用核心之新服务，并且根据手机平台设计了以手机使用者为主的新功能，显示Google目标不仅是要成为计算机网络平台的电子商务龙头，手机平台与服务亦是其主要营运主轴。
图二为Google Maps Mobile之Java展示画面，此功能乃是Google提供网络使用者一个操作之模拟界面，方便让使用者可以在计算机上先”练习”一下相关手机使用功能。由图二可以发现，而功能包括”Find Business”、”Find Location”、 ”Directions”、”Satellite View”、”Clear Map”、”Zoom”、”Help”、”Show Traffic”与”Quit”等。其中除”Show Traffic”（显示路况）之外都是我们熟悉的Google Maps功能。
图三为我们测试Google总部之实时路况（地址为：1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View CA），由图可见”绿色（路况佳）”、”黄色（小塞车）”与”红色（塞车）”等三种颜色路况标示。此外，其它地图相关服务，包括找商店、显示方向或是放大与缩小等亦可再此界面上进一步操作。
由Google仅在Google Maps Mobile平台推出实时路况查询，我们得到一个启示，亦即使用习惯的差异必会导致平台的差异，而对应的服务也会有差异。换言之，以使用者而言，实际上需要在计算机上查询路况的机率是远小于在手机上使用的，因为查询路况之需求乃是属于行动中个人的。因此虽然同样是地图服务，也只有在行动载具上（包括收机与GPS载具），实时路况之功能需求量才大。
Google Maps虽然是一个大平台，但是Google根据此平台继续切割更多小应用，并放到适当的载具上值得我们学习，此外，我们也需要进一步观察其实际被接受状况。(1122字)
