The link between murder and Mexico's GDPPosted: March 27, 2009, 3:10 PM by Drew HasselbackEconomics

The more Mexico's economy slows, the higher the homocide rate gets, suggest analysts with Citigroup. Click on the graph for a larger image.

Based on the correlation between the murder-rate and GDP, the analysts say the downward trend in Mexico's economy suggests growth in the homicide rate will rise.

Still, Mexico's Ambassador to Canada, Francisco Barrio Terrazas, wants us all to come for a visit:

Mexico remains a safe tourist destination. This fact is reflected in the 22.6 million international visitors that arrived in 2008, of which 1,144,650 were Canadians — a 20% increase over the previous year. Nevertheless, visitors to any destination in the world should exercise caution and common sense, and the same holds true when traveling to Mexico. I invite travelers going to Mexico to abide by the law and relevant codes of conduct, so that everyone can have a good time, and travel safely.

Any competent mathematicians out there?

My holy grail is to do an equivalent to "mathematics of rule" which proves that social / economic survival is solely dependent on the ratio between productivity and greed:

I believe the % rulers result is equivalent or proportional to % violence in society. but am unable to prove it (yet). Been stumped for several years.

Any insights appreciated. Call it open-source truth seeking.
