National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran's parliament decided on Sunday to "cut relations completely" with Britain, local semi-official Fars news agency reported.

Lawmaker Mohammad Karami-Rad told Fars that the members of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission decided in their Sunday meeting to cut the relations completely with Britain and their decision needs to be passed by the parliament.

The commission's decision on cutting relations with Britain will be sent to the parliament for discussion as soon as possible, Karami-Rad was quoted as saying.

Some Iranian foreign policy officials were also present in the meeting, Karami-Rad said.

The members of the commission also condemned the recent remarks of the British ambassador to Iran, he added.

In the recent remarks posted on the website of the British Embassy in Tehran to mark the International Human Rights Day, British Ambassador to Iran Simon Gass said he is critical of the human rights situation in Iran.

"The British government," he said, "will continue to draw attention to cases in which people are deprived of their fundamental freedom."

Earlier last week, Kazem Jalali, rapporteur of the commission threatened that the commission would discuss about a plan to reduce ties with Britain in response to the human rights remarks made by the British ambassador.
