stumbleupon The Costa Rican government on Monday closed its embassy in Nicaragua, due to a conflict over the border between the two countries, which is under review by the International Court of Justice in the Hague, Netherlands.Nicaraguan Vice President Jaime Morales regretted the withdrawal of the Costa Rican diplomats, and said that this does not help to solve the problem.
Morales said that closing the Costa Rican embassy "hinders" the possibility of coming to an understanding.
Costa Rican diplomats in Nicaragua were called to return to San Jose by the Costa Rican government, due to the deteriorating relationship between the two countries over the border conflict that began with clean up efforts of the San Juan River, which Costa Rican government said is an invasion of its territory.
Morales also said that he was surprised that the Nicaraguan local newspaper "La Nacion" quoted Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla as saying that Nicaragua is an "enemy" country.
"I found it strange that this newspaper said that Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla made these statements," Morales said.
