French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel talked about Ireland debt crisis in a telephone conversation on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the Elysee Palace.

They expressed wishes that Ireland, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund could reach conclusion to their ongoing negotiation as soon as possible.

The two leaders reaffirmed that the mechanisms supporting Europe is in place and operational until 2013, the statement said.

They also agreed to work together for a permanent mechanism to deal with crisis beyond 2013, the statement added.
