At least two people were killed in clashes between the followers of Haitian presidential candidates Charles Henry Baker and Jude Celestin, just five days before the presidential and legislative elections, Haitian sources said on Tuesday.

According to information from Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, the clash occurred on Monday in the Grande-Anse zone of west Haiti, when the followers of both candidates attended different events in the same place, at Beaumont parish.

According to initial reports, Celestin's bodyguards shot Baker' s followers.

The sources added that Baker's team accused police in the region of impeding the event and not preventing the shooting incident from occurring.

Meanwhile, general director of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) Pierre-Louis Opont said on Tuesday that the authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Identities of the victims were not revealed.

Haitians will vote on Nov. 28 to choose a president to replace incumbent Rene Preval, from among 18 candidates, amid a cholera epidemic outbreak that has killed at least 1,200 people since October.
