Chinese Army conducts live military exercises in Tibet

Chinese military has conducted its first-ever live military exercises involving air force, artillery and electronic warfare divisions near the foot of the snow-capped mountains on the Tibetan plateau, close to the Indian border.

The exercises aimed at testing the endurance of the soldiers at the altitude of over 4,700 meters was completed successfully with troops overcoming the effects of physical and mental health problems caused by coldness and oxygen deficits.

The exercises came amid reports of China rapidly expanding its infrastructure with extensive railway network connecting all most all parts of Tibet, which could provide logistic ability to PLA to move its troops easily to the Indian border overcoming the adverse hilly terrain of Tibet. India To Improve Airbases Near China

Major upgrades to Indian Air Force bases in the country's northeast are long overdue, the service's chief of staff said.
Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik announced Nov. 2 that the Air Force plans major upgrades of its bases bordering China and Pakistan.

Naik said the composite upgrade of capabilities at the region's airbases should have been done a long time ago.

Eight advance landing grounds will be upgraded, Naik said, and infrastructure will be improved at five or six major airfields, allowing them to accommodate more modern aircraft.

The Indian Air Force has awarded the airfield infrastructure modernization project to local company Tata Power, which will upgrade 30 airfields at a cost of $282 million.

A second phase of airfield upgrades is also under consideration, a senior Air Force official said.

Last year, the Air Force deployed nuclear-capable Sukhoi 30MKI fighter aircraft at Daulat Begh Oldhi, eight kilometers from the Sino-Indian border in Jammu and Kashmir, and at other airbases in the northeast.  (Defense News)

According to Liu Jiangping, a Chinese military expert, the cooperative engagement capability in different landforms is one of basic abilities of a modern army.  There shouldn't more interpretations for PLA's plateau drills. India also doesn't need to be too sensitive to China's military drills.
