内容简介：

Metaphor is pervasive in all cultures and societies. The advance in research on metaphor has led to an international interest in the topic, especially in the field of Chinese and comparative studies.  In the last twenty years or so, a number of influential scholars in the field of Chinese and comparative literature have written on metaphor and Chinese poetry and advanced ideas that differentiate Chinese and Western conceptions and uses of metaphor. Their emphasis on differences rather than compatibility cannot but force us to ask: Is the Western conception of metaphor universal to all cultures? In the comparative study of Chinese and Western languages and literature, do the Chinese conceive and use metaphor in a similar way as their Western counterparts? What insights can we gain in the comparative studies of Chinese and Western metaphors? What significance do these insights have for our understanding of Chinese poetry in particular and of poetry in general? This presentation will examine these and other issues related to metaphor from conceptual and practical perspectives.

内容简介：在当今全球化取得飞速进展的时代，科学技术已经不分什么国界了。但是人文社科是否有国别差异？这仍然是一个值得探讨的问题.至于中西做学问的方法,显然存在着一定的差异。严复就曾认为中国人重博雅，西方人重新知。做学问真的有中西之别吗？做学问的西方路数是什么?西方的学术刊物需要什么样的文章?怎样向西方学术刊物投稿才能成功?美国达拉斯德州大学中国文学与比较文学教授顾明栋先生将针对这些问题,根据自己在英美的求学经历与教学科研,对中西做学问的路数, 谈一些个人的观察、感想、经验、教训和看法。

主讲人简介：顾明栋，中国江苏人，先后留学英、美，美国芝加哥大学博士，现为美国达拉斯德州大学中国文学和比较文学教授，美国《诺敦理论与批评选集》特别顾问，曾负责推选首位中国理论家进入世界权威的文艺理论选集并作评介。研究方向为英美文学、西方文论、比较诗学、中国思想及中西文化比较研究。著有英文专著两部：《中国阅读理论：走向诠释学与开放诗学》、《中国小说理论：一个非西方的叙事系统》，中文专著一部《原创的焦虑：语言、文学、文化研究的多元途径》（2009年，李泽厚先生作序），编著译著多部，论文六十余篇，大部分发表于国内核心期刊和国外主流学刊，其中国内核心期刊有《文学评论》、《文艺研究》、《文艺理论研究》、《江苏社会科学》、《南京大学学报》、《中山大学学报》、《当代外国文学》、《外国文学》、《外语教学与研究》、《外国语》、《现代外语》等；国外学刊包括《新文学史》，《今日诗学》，《叙事学》，《精神分析学季刊》，《美学教育》，《辨析批评》，《比较文学》，《比较文学研究》，《加拿大比较文学研究》（两篇），《东西方哲学》（三篇），《中国哲学》（四篇），《文学与心理学》，《亚洲研究》，《东方研究》，《华裔学志》，《中国文学》，《现代语言季刊》，《劳伦斯研究》（两篇），《翻译研究》等。其中有二十篇收入《艺术与人文科学索引》(Arts and Humanities Citation Index) 或《社会科学索引》(Social Sciences Citation Index)。
