荷兰马斯特里赫特，教堂书店
What does a city do with an 800-year-old church withno congregation? Well, it could make like the Dutch and convert it intoa temple of books. The old Dominican church in Maastricht was beingused for bicycle storage not long ago, but thanks to a radicalrefurbishment by Dutch architects Merkx·Girod it has been turned intowhat could possibly be the most beautiful bookshop of all time。
在一间拥有800年历史的古教堂里读书是什么感觉？不久前，荷兰马斯特里赫特市的多米尼加教堂还是一个供人们存放自行车的地方。荷兰建筑师默克斯·吉罗德给这座废弃的教堂带来了惊人变化，他把教堂改造成了一家书店。
The Boekhandel Selexyz Dominicanen, which opened justbefore Christmas, retains the character and charm of the old church,while being fitted with a minimalist and modern interior design thatovercomes any suggestion of fustiness. From the images you can find onthe web you can see that it is a bookshop made in heaven.
书店2007年圣诞节前刚刚开张。吉罗德尽量保留原有建筑风貌，只在内部装饰上作了些许变动，添加了一些现代元素，令整座教堂焕然一新。在一排排书架间穿行，头顶上方是高大、美丽的教堂穹顶，难怪有人把这里称为“天堂书店”。

阿根廷布宜诺斯艾利斯，雅典人书店
All the world's a page at El Ateneo, a bookshopconverted from an old theatre in downtown Buenos Aires. As you can seefrom this photomontage the El Ateneo has retained its former splendour,with high painted ceiling, original balconies and ornate carvingsintact。
这是由布宜诺斯艾利斯闹市一家老剧院改造成的豪华书店。书店共3层，营业面积2000多平方米，号称南美第一。
Even the crimson stage curtains remain part of theshow. Comfy chairs are scattered throughout, the stage is utilised as areading area and café, and even better, the former theatre boxes areused as tiny reading rooms。
剧院内原有包厢、雕刻、戏台上的深红色幕布均保存完好，只是戏台变成了供读者休息的地方，你可以上去吃点心，也可闲坐读书。包厢则变成了一个个“迷你”阅览室。

葡萄牙波尔图，莱罗书店
Proving that purpose-built bookshops can be every bitas beautiful as converted buildings, the divine Livraria Lello in Portohas been selling books in the most salubrious of settings since 1881.
与前两家不同，莱罗书店生来就是一家书店，开张于1881年。
Featuring a staircase to heaven and beautifullyintricate wooden panels and columns (see for yourself with thesegorgeous 360-degree views)，stained glass ceilings and books - lots oflovely books。
书店中央有一个漂亮的木制楼梯，一直通到楼顶。读者可以透过玻璃楼顶，360度仰望天空。楼梯四周书架上摆满各种好书，令“书虫”们流连忘返。

英国苏格兰格拉斯哥，边界书店
The might of the Michigan-based megastore may make alot of independent booksellers fearful, but few book lovers can fail tobe beguiled by the neo-classical architecture of its behemoth Glasgowbranch。

Originally designed by Archibald Elliot in 1827 forthe Royal Bank, Borders has occupied a prime spot on Royal ExchangeSquare since the millennium and won over many of the city's booklovers. People reading on the steps outside have become as much afeature of Glasgow as the traffic cone on the head of Wellington'sstatue。
书店前身是皇家银行，1827年由建筑师阿奇博尔德·埃略特设计。如今，书香已取代了“铜臭味”。
