Nepal's House again failed to elect new prime minister for a third time as both candidates -- Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) Chairman Prachanda and Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-Chairman Ramchandra Paudel failed to get majority votes in the third round election Monday.

The UCPN-M Chairman got only 259 votes out of the 581 lawmakers presented at the Parliament. The House Speaker Subash Nemwang announced that 114 lawmakers voted against Prachanda while 208 remained abstain.

Similarly, another candidate NC Vice-Chairman Paudel got only 124 votes.

According to Interim Constitution of Nepal 2007,candidate must get majority votes -- 300 votes out of 599 lawmakers in the Parliament to win the election.

Earlier, both of the candidates had failed to garner simple majority in first and second round of election held on July 21 and July 23.

After third largest party Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML) and United Democratic Madhesi Front ( UDMF), an alliance of four Madhes-based parties which commands 82 seats in Parliament decided to remain abstain from voting, candidates are not being able to muster majority votes.

The UCPN-M upholds 238, NC upholds 119 and CPN-UML upholds 109 seats respectively in the Parliament.
