1、All wet
直译是"全湿的",引申为"大错特错,胡说,瞎扯"。
e.g. I'm afraid your idea is all wet

2、All thumbs
"笨手笨脚,笨拙"。想像一下,一个人的十个手指头全是大拇指,自然拿不稳东西,干起活来也就笨手笨脚的了。
e.g. She was all thumbs but tried to knit a sweater.

3、Ants in one's pants
"坐立不安"。联想一下,蚂蚁钻进了裤子,肯定坐不住了。
e.g. I have ants in my pants for the coming exam on Tuesday.

4、An apple polisher
"马屁精",直译是"擦苹果的人"。典故源于美国西部"拓边"时期。那时人们都很穷,老师没有工资。学生上课时给老师带点粮食水果之类的东西就算学费了。哪个学生把苹果擦得越亮,老师就越高兴,以此比喻善于拍马屁的人。
e.g. I don't like Robert, because he got high grades on the exam by being an apple polisher to the teachers.

5、At the wheel
"开车、控制、领导"。
e.g. Who's at the wheel in this company?
这个习语源自航海,是指控制航向的船舵,又叫方向盘。本意为站在船舵或方向盘后面控制方向,引申为开车、管理或控制一个机构。

6、Bad news
"讨厌鬼"。
e.g. Marcy is nothing but bad news around here.
直译是"坏消息",但也可指人,那种很令人讨厌的人。

7、Bail out
"摆脱麻烦或危险(跳伞)"。
e.g. After his company failed, Bill's dad paid the loan off for him and bailed him out from bankruptcy.

8、Beats me
"我不知道"。
e.g. Beats me. We haven't learnt that yet.

e.g. That newspaper story blew the lid off the Senator's illegal business deals.

10、Check out hot chicks
"打望,瞅美女"。
e.g. Hey, stud, let's go downtown and check out hot chicks.
打望,重庆的方言之一,特指在街头以看美女养眼的举动。现在也指女性"打望"男性。

男人的一大爱好就是"瞅美女,打望"。这可是全世界关于瞅美女最标准的英语段子,所有老外都听得懂。美女:hot chicks, hottie, babe……
