Special Issue on Advances in Collaborative Engineering: from Concurrent Engineering to Collaborative Manufacturing
From concurrent engineering (CE), computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), product data management (PDM), product lifecyle management (PLM), to collaborative manufacturing, collaborative engineering has been enriched dramatically during the past decades. Collaborative engineering is not just a technology but also a strategic business approach. It provides a consistent set of solutions to support the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of information through the entire product lifecyle, and further to integrate people, processes, business systems, and information more effectively.
This special issue is aimed at reviewing the state-of-the-art researches and applications, addressing the major challenges and issues of developing and applying collaborative engineering methodologies, techniques and systems. The scope of the issue covers, but not limited to:
- Development and application of distributed and collaborative technologies (e.g., agent-based technologies and distributed virtual reality technologies)
- Communication, coordination, integration and interoperation strategies of collaborative systems
- Collaborative product standards, models and protocols
- Collaborative design process/knowledge management
- Collaborative supply chain management
- Collaborative product lifecyle management
- Practical applications and case studies of collaborative product development
The guest editors invite authors to submit papers to this special issue. Submissions may include review papers, empirical research contributions including surveys and case studies. Papers should adhere to the regular criteria of Computers in Industry in terms of originality, structure and references.
Prospective authors may wish to contact the guest editors with abstracts for an early feedback on possible publication. Abstracts and full electronic manuscripts (in MS Word or PDF) should be sent electronically to the guest editors.
