3 Fantastic Felines Made Famous by YouTube
Meow Monday
It’s Monday once more and time for some feline fun. These days you don’t have to be in film or on TV to be a star. Nope, all it takes these days is the Internet and a whole lot of people who find something you did interesting.
But more interesting than people are cats! And they’re making themselves famous across the globe, in cyberspace. Which is pretty cool when you think about it.
#3 Spaghetti Cat
This mysterious cat turned up originally on The Morning Show with Mike & Julie, a local morning show in NYC. And what an entrance: a picture of him sitting in front of a plate of plain spaghetti popped up on the screen in the middle of a segment on binge drinking. The popularity of this black domestic shorthair took off shortly thereafter.
The Spaghetti cat image was simply everywhere! The Soup even ran a segment on the clip, wanting to know who Spaghetti cat was.
Today, you can buy mugs, T-shirts, and only goodness knows what else. But who is he? Where did he come from?
The mystery has been revealed. Sort of. Turns out he was part of aMike & Juliet segment on talented pets, and apparently he really does eat spaghetti with a fork, but he froze in front of the camera (which explains why he’s such a recluse -- he suffers stage fright). The crew found it hilarious, decided to use the clip as the bleeper button (where you have five seconds to “bleep” out something offensive on live TV), and an Internet superstar was born.
#2 Maru
Maru, a rather rotund Scottish Fold who lives in Japan, has also become a YouTube star. Why, you ask? Well, simply because he loves to climb into things that are too small for him to fit into (or at least attempt to, as Maru doesn’t believe in giving up). But he is much more than that. Maru likes to explore … everything! Boxes, tubs, sinks, buckets, bins, plastic bags … you name it and Maru is into it.
Maru is a huge star in Japan, and now everyone else knows about him, too. And you know what? The clamoring of people around the world for Maru is such that he has his very own  and a .
We wonder how long it will take before Maru finds himself starring in his very own Hollywood movie?
#1 Nora, The Piano Cat
That’s right, we are talking about that piano-playing cat! Pretty thrilling, right? Even more thrilling is the fact that she’s completely self-taught.
Nora, a rescue cat, is not only talented, but she’s naturally beautiful, too (her wonderful hues of grey are only accentuated by her tabbymarkings). Her love of performing, however, began when, still just a young cat, she decided to place her paws on the piano keys while one of her owners, Betsy, was teaching a piano lesson.
Nora loves to look at herself in the reflection in the piano, and lay her head against the keys to really feel the music.  She also plays duets.
A few of Betsy’s students took pictures of her and one wanted to make a YouTube video so they could show their friends. And from there, Nora has really taken off. She’s had newspapers articles written about her, has her own blog (), DVD, and has published a book (with another one coming out soon!) on playing the piano.
Meow! It’s Monday.
