Subversion is a replacement for CVS which provides one critical new feature that is very compelling, atomic commits. You can commit many files all at once so that your codebase is not out of sync while you commit your multiple changes. And now you can use VS.NET with Subversion using a new module...
Subway was created after the author triedJalindi Igloo which works withCVS. Unfortunately Igloo has not been updated in a while and it apparently was never a fully functional CVS implementation. SourceSafe uses the SCC API for communicating with SourceSafe, so both Igloo and Subway implement that API to communicate with CVS and Subversion. Subway is currently in the early stages and will need more work before it can be used in a Production environment. In a few months it should be worth another look. But for now, it shows a great deal of promise and hopefully it soon provides a viable alternative to SourceSafe.
