学生H: I'm quite interested in the xxx theory and may write about it for a paper. Could you please recommend some books or other reading materials related to this theory? 庄主: Yes, I can give you a list. However, I believe that it's better for you to find relevant materials by yourself, through which you will learn not only what's available in the literature but also how to find them. The former is knowledge whereas the latter skills. Knowledge can serve you for the paper whereas skills will benefit you lifetime. Suggestion: You may want to pay more attention to journal articles than books because the former are the primary venue of scholarly information. You can start with scholar.google, wikipedia, and social sciences electronic databases (e.g., Social Sciences Citation Index, PsycINFO, ERIC) available in the library. In fact, these would have been the same sources for me to look up had I provided relevant materials for you. Also note that when you look up these sources, it is usually better to enter keywords as specific as possible. For example, if you were interested in priming theory, it would be better to enter "media priming effects" than "priming" as the latter might result in many other leads that are not directly relevant. Likewise, if you were interested in selective processes, you would be better off to enter "selective attention," "selective perception," etc. instead of "selective processes" as the latter might generate too many or too few leads. Inclusion of the author last name(s) of the classics in the keyword list is also an effective approach.
