对很多美国和加拿大人圣诞节具有特别的意义。圣诞节已不仅是基督教的节日，无论我们是基督教徒与否，这节日对所有北美居民充满和平，仁爱，善意，快乐和安宁的意义。
在这个时际我们暂时忘却（哪怕是很暂时）生活和职业上的压力和忧虑，喜庆与好友或家人团聚，享受天伦之乐。
这个时节敌人放下武器，朋友复始友谊。我们衷心祝愿美国和加拿大朋友们圣诞快乐，万事如意。

送、收圣诞礼品需知：
西方礼节和我们中国有多不同之处。出送和接受礼品时，我们该注意些什么呢？
- 无论大小、昂贵或便宜，对收到的礼物要真心表示感谢。既然有人费心思为你购买这礼物，你要亲切地说声谢谢。
- 保留价格标签在礼品上极度失礼，价格标签务必取下后才把礼品送给人家。如果礼品是 Gap，JC Penny，沃尔玛等商店买来的，你可以要求一张“礼品收据” (gift receipt)，把这收据和礼品放在一起 。“礼品收据” 像一个普通收据，但没有显示价格。这收据让收礼品者如有必要可以去卖店替换别的物品。 （华人商店通常不提供这种“礼品收据”。）
- 礼品的价值应表示送礼人的大方，但不过分。过高价值的礼物会让对方觉得“被 讨好”或“被行贿” ，并留下负面印象。
- 送金钱和礼物卡 (gift card)，是不适当的，除非是送给家人或亲戚。对有些服务提供者（如园丁，清洁工，邮递员等）可以送现金，但要放在信封（或红包）里。
- 国产小件物品和价格低的小饰品在北美形象不佳，并在美国高失业率情况下会产生不良反应，要尽可能避免送这种礼品。
- 如果送巧克力，小心对方可能有花生或坚果过敏。
- 如果你不知道该送些什么，书籍总是最适当，容易受欢迎的礼品。
但别忘记：最好的圣诞礼物，总是一个常带微笑的脸孔。
