American Dream

The basic information

America has 50 states and one Federal Territory. And it is the forth largest country with 926 square kilometers. Its population is more than 300 million, just less      than         china and india. America declared independence in1776 and became the NO.1 in the economy in 1870. it is one of the five Permanent members in the United Nations. And America has the most powerful influence in politics , economy, military and entertainment in the world. And that is why there are so many people want to immigrate into America.  

It’s said that the history of immigration is the history of America. And American history started from immigration. So there are all kinds of races in America.

 That’s the main four races in America, the majority is the white. And most of them are  Germany.

Nowadays more people want to immigrate into America for pursuit of the American Dream, and the Governments make series of laws to restrict the immigration.

 But what is American Dream? American dream is a belief that as long as in the United States whoever will be able to achieve the ideal of a better life after a hard struggle , that is, people have to work through their own diligence, courage, creativity and determination to move towards Prosperity, rather than rely on specific social classes and other assistance.

Despite some criticism of the American dream of excessive emphasis on material wealth and happiness in the measure of victory on the role, but many Americans really believe that the success of such an opportunity in the world can not be found in other countries. In the United States， considerable economic freedom and the limited role of government, make the U.S. be a great social mobility, and a person may go through their own efforts towards the peak.

The American Dream contains:

    ◎ every one have the chance to succeed

    ◎ success attributes to one’s capability and diligence

    ◎right of equality

    ◎freedom of belief

Here is some idols for American Dream. Edison , the king of invention. Rockefeller ,American oil magnate. Morgan , Morgan Financial Group founder. Henry Ford, the ford motor company’s founder.

They all came from poor families, but achieved very big success through their own diligence and intelligence.

In the new age, the idols for American Dream is Bill Gates, one of the richest in the world. Jerry Yang, the founder of Yahoo. Google founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin.  They accumulated a large fortune at young age through their talent and knowledge. That seems to show that in America, you can succeed as soon as you are intelligent.

Some historians hold the view that the appetite and pursuit for fortune is the real motivation for American Dream. American advocated achieving success through their diligence and honesty in the past years , but now more are interested in quick riches. By comparing with the two kinds of idols, we can feel the change of the American dream. For example , the ways to get rich American high praise are lawsuits to fight for compensation , gambling  in Las Vegas ,and taking part in TV games with prize.

Early European immigrants to the United States, believe in the equality of political rights and religious equality. But today, many people afraid that the United States has also involved into a political money game.

Jeremy Rifkin, the author of The European Dream, says that over the years, the American Dream millions of Americans embrace , is  more like American Daydream.

Since the bank of America loosen credit to encourage people to borrow money to buy a house, the price of housing was increasing. And by 2006, the average house prices was 5 to 6 times of the average income.

Califonia, a symbol of the American Dream, with up to 240 billion budget deficit, forced into bankruptcy.

Having a villa in the suburbs has been part of the American Dream in the past decades.

But more hints show that ecomonic recession and housing crisis are changing the American Dream of the youth.

A group of statistics show that the interest in purchase of houses is declining.

Accordingly,many urban researchers predicted that the attitude of having one’s own house is rapidly changing, and the United States are entering the rental of the times.

The risk of a downward spiral of house prices is the primary danger facing the American economy . The current decline of house prices is the natural result of the bubble that by 2006 had raised house prices to 60 per cent above their long-term trend.

The US economy is sliding into recession. Employment, industrial production and real incomes are declining. Monetary policy has little traction because of the dysfunctional credit markets and the collapse of housing. The fiscal policy of tax rebates failed to achieve a significant impact on consumer spending. The economy will continue to decline and the financial markets to deteriorate unless a policy is adopted to stop the downward spiral of house prices.

A few years ago Jeremy Rifkin, an American author, published a book called The European Dream, which made a great splash in Brussels. “While the American spirit is languishing, a new European dream is being born,” he wrote. “It is a dream far better suited to the next stage in the human journey – one that promises to bring humanity to a global consciousness befitting an increasingly interconnected society.”

I think , not just European dream is being born . there are Chinese Dream , indian dream and so on.. America wouldn’t be the only center of the world .

The film names The Guru

The story is about a dancing teacher from India. He flys to New York to pursue  his American Dream, dreaming to be another John Travolta, a dancing king. But the reality is far away from his dream. He became a waiter in the Queens. By accident, he meets with a New York celebrity. She brings him into a way with lotus and gold everywhere. He becomes very rich. But he knows nothing about his new job, he is just treating.

This is another example to show that more people are pursuing quick riches.
