Increases the bookmark The clashes broke out on Saturday in Conakry between supporters of Cellou Dalein Diallo, the front runner in the first round, and the No. 2 Alpha Conde. The situation has been under control on Sunday.
Media reports also said the interim government called a urgent cabinet meeting on Sunday to discuss the current situation in the country. The meeting decided to ban street demonstrations so as to pave the way for the second round of the presidential election scheduled for Sept. 19.
The first-round tally showed that Diallo, the former prime minister and the leader of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), won 43. 69 percent of the votes cast, while Conde scored 18.25 percent of the total. Both men were accorded the legal status to enter the second round.
