据12月24日出版的《环球时报》报道，声称将在英国毒贩事件上“加大对中国施压力度”一天之后，22日，英国官方又置可能“引发中英间新外交纠纷”于不顾，向媒体披露称，首相布朗已经致信中国领导人为毒贩阿克毛求情，给中国政府出了一道“英国应该更尊重中国司法”还是“中国应该更尊重英国请求”的难题。与布朗不同，很多关注此事的英国网民选择了前者。

据英国《卫报》报道，英国首相外事办公室22日发表声明称：“首相和外交大臣已经多次向中方提出阿克毛案一事。昨天，首相致信中国总理温家宝，表达了对中国最高人民法院核准阿克毛死刑判决的震惊，并希望中方重新考虑这一决定，提请中国政府减轻量刑。”英国《国家》报22日称，布朗此前曾请求中国领导人免除阿克毛死刑，但没有成功。这次布朗要再做最后一次尝试。

英国首相外事办公室公布的写信内幕不但引起各大媒体追踪，也引起网民的极大兴趣。与英国政府的态度不同，大部分网友都在跟帖中支持中国依法办事，打击毒品犯罪。在英国《泰晤士报》此条新闻的报道下，网友大卫·希尔伯特说，中国判处毒贩死刑的量刑完全正确，毒品交易就像大规模投毒或者使用化学武器一样，对这种严重犯罪就应该采取这样严厉的惩罚措施。网友法鲁克批评布朗只顾着挑别的国家法律制度的不是，却不关心本国的问题。网友思韦茨建议说，我们不应该干涉中国的事情。如果他们判决执行死刑，那就执行好了。毒贩子给社会带来巨大痛苦，我看英国也该恢复死刑。
