在迪士尼几十年以来的卡通长片经典中，《风中奇缘》可以说是非常特别的一部，因为这是在所有以“人”为主角的迪士尼卡通里面，头一次让“有色人种”当主角，而且也不是以“皆大欢喜”作为故事的结局。

迪士尼的卡通往往制作得老少咸宜，因为他们在讲述一个简单的卡通故事的同时，还试图让观众体会到一些画面外的真意。如你我这样的成年人，也能从中看出乐趣，看出生活、生命的真谛。《风中奇缘》就是这么一部精彩的故事。

迪斯尼公司请得艾伦.曼肯 (Alan Menken)出马，这次为《风中奇缘》 (Pocahontas)配乐，丝毫不减大师功力；填词由两获格林美的奖斯蒂芬.舒瓦兹(Stephen Schwartz)操刀；主唱则请来范妮莎.威廉姆斯(Vanessa Williams)，使片中那种深沉的感伤、却又自由新生的浪漫气氛展露无遗。风之彩(Colors Of The Wind)也因此获得了第六十八届奥斯卡最佳电影歌曲。

这首歌的歌词虽然很简单，意义却是非常深远的。而故事里白人和印第安人的关系，以及歌曲里人类和大自然的关系，都值得我们去深思。我们的家园现在面临的不也正是这样的情况吗？为了经济的发展，树林砍掉了；草原破坏了；河流不在清澈；安静的生活也一去不返。我们小的时候能去山上爬树、水里捞鱼，而如今的孩子只能住在钢筋水泥的“树林”里玩着电脑游戏。当你摒弃了以自我为中心的态度，当你放开心胸爱我们身边的自然，相信你能体会到风的色彩。
