朗文当代高级英语词典是世界著名的学习型词典,主要特征就是在英英解释部分,所有词条的解释都是用常用的2000个高频词来进行释义的,不会出现生词解释生词的现象,而且例句来源于生活,丰富自然,目前在市面上纸质销售在同档次中也非常好,第三版主要是更改了一些原有的错误等等,因此各个电子厂商才会大都采用,这个词典属于典型的适合中国人学习英文过程中使用的词典;
剑桥国际英语词典承袭了典型的英国绅士品质,标准规范,典型的英式英语,在英语解释中采用国际最著名的BNC语料库(据说100多年的历史积累的),基本为2000高频词解释,最突出的地方是在例句方面,大都采用名著中的典型句子,这事任何其他词典所不具备的,下边我搞了100条其中的例句和他们来源,大家看看便知;
AHD词典是典型的美国英语词典,无论是发音标注还是解释,同时也沿袭了美国人的特点,词条绝对多,
并且把能放的内容都放进去,就是词典+百科,不信你可以看看基本上中国的地名,包括一些二级地市的介绍都有,按照一般词典编纂规则这些词条是不能作为词条出现的,因此这个词典并不是按照我们一般型词典的规则开发的,更像是一个百科图书,不信你可以随便查里边的单词,对照国内词典甚至朗文牛津什么的,它的内容上一定是更加丰富的;

所以我认为评价词典的好坏不能只按照纸质售价来评定,因为其中包含各种纸张、印刷,发行渠道等等的限制,而要从词典的品牌和使用效果来评定,牛津、朗文、剑桥、柯林斯、韦伯斯特、ahd等等都是非常不错的词典,并不能直接区分好和不好,其实牛津在中国的发展主要是靠放任盗版的策略,使大家耳濡目染,微软开始也是这个策略,而培生教育集团目前是世界最大的教育机构,你怎么能说他做的词典不好呢;剑桥词典就是典型的英式血统,不张扬,但是内容绝对是特立独行的;ahd词典是典型的美式英语词典,这一点新东方的培训中也有提到,也是俞校长和他的老师门所一致推荐的,所以我觉的不争也罢。
