New version of GT-Plug ( 2006-05-06 - 3:20 pm,vikke,Comments (3) )

Bruno Stuani has just released a new version of his popular addonGT-Plug. It has no new features, just some changes.
The old version was really buggy, so Bruno decided to make a remake of GT-Plug, which should be more stable.
It‘s compitable with the latest Google Talk with the avatars and chat themes. One change in the new version is the languages. You can easy translate GT-Plug to your own language by changing a file.
This file is located in: %drive%:\Program Files\GT-Plug\Translations\.
To translate GT-Plug, copy and paste the English.ini file and rename the "Copy of English.ini" to your own language for example "Swedish.ini".
Open it up in notepad, and replace the english strings to your own language.
We would appreciate if you upload your translation in the forums.
You can download it fromhis website, just click "Download" and click "+Installer"
Talqer ( 2006-05-05 - 12:30 pm,Wumpus,Comments (5) )

WhenTalqer was released about a month ago by Vozin Communications, it immediatelly caught my attention. Talqer (pronounced Talker) is a program that integrates with Google Talk to allow users to make phone calls to normal telephones anywhere in the world.
Quote: Talqer offers:
* The choice whether you want to integrate Talqer together with Google Talk or use it as a stand alone application.
* Talqer is based on open industry standards and offers very high voice quality.
* Talqer adds three buttons to the Google Talk user interface to allow you to call normal telephone lines from inside Google Talk
* Talqer offers affordable rates: every single Talqer rate is lower than Skype. Calls to 22 countries cost only 1.5¢ per minute: a 33% savings when compared with Skype for US callers and a 53% savings for European customers (no VAT). We offer calls to another 8 countries at just 2¢ per minute. That‘s thirty (30) countries at 2¢ or less!

Thanks to Vozin Communications I had the chance to test Talqer myself.
They provided me with a test account with 2$ on it, enough to make some telephone calls.
The setup of Talqer went smoothly. You have the ability to change some settings. You can start Talqer when Windows starts or start Talqer when Google Talk starts. The default country code can be changed too (I‘m from Belgium so I changed it to 32).
The first time I opened Talqer, I noticed the similarity with Google Talk.
Talqer has the same style of layout: the white background, the login form, the gray titlebar, the window border..

Once signed in, it‘s possible to open a dialpad in Talqer, so you can ‘dial‘ a telephone number using your mouse. Offcourse you can just enter a number with the keyboard. A click on the green phone icon or a press on the return button and Talqer starts dialing the number.
First I called my home phone number. dialing... ringggggg...clicked to red phone icon in Talqer to stop the call. That seemed to work alright :) next I tried to call my mobile phone. I entered the number, pressed return, and my mobile phone started ringing. So I clicked the red phone icon again to hang up the phone. Also no problems with that, there was no money charged, I still had the 2$.
I tested calling my mobile phone about 5 times, but 2 times it was acting a little strange. After hanging up the call with talqer, my cellphone received another call from +0000000000. I pressed the ‘hang up‘ button on my cellphone. Another incoming telephone call from an unknown number. After 3 phone calls from an unknown number (in about 10 seconds) it stopped.
It was time to do some actual speaking so I dialed the mobile phone number of a friend. His reaction was that the quality of the sound was much better than in a normal phone call. It felt wierd to hear the sound of a phone call come out of my speakers, but I enjoyed it. The quality was good and it there was no delay.

Talqer is integrated into Google Talk in such a way that you can enter a phone number in the search field, and after pressing return or clicking the green phone icon the call is made. There is also an icon for hanging up the call, and one for showing the dialpad. You can disable these icons in the Talqer settings window.
Conclusion:
Talqer is a nice program and I would recommend everyone interested in VOIP to give it a try. It has a few bugs but if you look at the rates that Talqer gives you, you won‘t mind having them.
+ Good voice quality.
+ Talqer offers calls to 22 countries at 1.5¢ per minute, a 33% savings over Skype.
All Talqer long distance rates are cheaper than SkypeOut.
+ Easy user interface.
+ A good integration with Google Talk.
- The unexpected incoming calls.

We‘re Back! ( 2006-05-01 - 3:36 am,Wumpus,Comments (13) )

We went offline for a few days but now everything is back to normal.
This month we exceeded our monthly allowed bandwidth limit. This won‘t happen again since we are preparing to change the server and have unlimited bandwidth. The forum and downloads have just been re-enabled. Enjoy!
Forum down ( 2006-04-27 - 11:54 am,Wumpus,Comments (0) )

We‘re having some issues with our available bandwidth this month.
It seems we‘re a victim of our success. The visitors of customizetalk.com have doubled last month and as a temporary solution we‘ve decided to close the forum and disable the downloads. This is just for a few days. We‘re planning of moving the website to a new (and faster) server next month. You can also expect an improved website soon.
Sorry for the problems ;)
