Beforewe can look at the future, we have to go back to August1969(这一年也是Gray博士毕业的同一年) to discover the origins of the relationalmodel. This was when Dr. E. F. Codd published his paper, "Derivability,Redundancy, and Consistency of Relations Stored in Large Data Banks" inan IBM Research Report. - From In the Beginning: An RDBMS history - byColin White,Teradata Magazine,September 2004

JosephS. Barrera III: Since early 2004 I have been a Senior SoftwareArchitect at Collation, working on Confignia, an automated enterprisesoftware discovery tool; my responsibilities are mainly for thediscovery of Windows software. In late 2005, Collation was acquired byIBM, but my responsibilities have remained the same, albeit as part ofthe TADDM product.

Wilbur H. Highleyman - 高可用系统领域名人,《PerformanceAnalysis of Transaction Processing Systems》(Prentice Hall,1989)一书作者.Thefounder of The Sombers Group, Dr. Bill Highleyman, acted as theperformance auditor on two of Tandem's performance prediction products- Tandem Capacity Model (TCM) and Guardian Performance Analyzer (GPA).Bill has been an ITUG member since 1980, becoming president of theNortheast Region Tandem User Group (NRTUG) in 1981. In 1984, he joinedthe ITUG Board of Directors, where he served as the ITUG chair in 1986.He has contributed heavily to the ITUG technical journal, "TheConnection," and currently serves on the HP enterprise advocacycommittee.

(Interview)

AConversation with Jim Gray - A computing great takes time to discusstransaction theory, databases, and more in this 2001 interview - byPhilippe Lourier,Dr.Dobb's Journal,2001
Introduction、 TheComputer Industry: the early days、 Records,Fields,and FORTRAN、Out ofBell Labs、Developing Relational Databases、Transaction Theory、Algorithmsand the Web、SQL、Stored Procedures、Performance,Time and Space、Conclusion- 这篇访谈侧重交易理论及其历史,而在Charles Babbage Institute关于Gray的口述历史中,对交易谈得不多

ATalk With Database Guru Jim Gray: Find out about the future of SQLServer 2000 and extreme scaling from Microsoft's resident expert inlarge databases, February 1, 2002

An Interview with Jim Gray - by David A. Patterson,ACMQueue,June 2003

Deconstructing databases with Jim Gray - by Mark Whitehorn,Register Developer,May 2006
Mark多次谈到Gray令人敬佩的品格,引用几句原文- One of the great exceptions to this rule is Jim Gray, who has managedto combine an outstanding academic career  with a very practicalone.....If all that wasn't enough, Jim Gray is further renowned forbeing a humanist. One of the most decent, honest, upright, pleasantpeople you could hope to meet....Even hardened cynical computerjournalists treat this guy with seriousrespect.

An interview with Jim Gray - by Philip L. Frana,Charles Babbage Institute,January 3,2002

List of Nobel laureates associated with UC Berkeley, Turing Award laureates

MicrosoftResearcher Jim Gray Receives Turing Award for Helping to TransformDatabases into Dynamic Tools Used by Millions - SAN FRANCISCO, May 14,1999 -这是介绍Gray成就及经历的一篇相当好的文章,写作者的姓名没有署上,他应该对Gray作了深度访谈,Gray对自己六、七十年代早年的事项也做了不少交代,比如在大学阶段如何迷上计算机,职业工作初期如何确定数据库技术作为研究方向,等等。

- Don is also a noted expert on Oracle webtechnology systems, and he has been instrumental in the development ofnumerous Web-based systems that support thousands of concurrent users.

Thelate 1980s and early 1990s saw big changes on the software side forSequent. DYNIX was replaced by DYNIX/ptx, which was based on a mergerof AT&T's version of UNIX and BSD 4.2. And this was during a periodwhen Sequent's high-end systems became particularly successful due to aclose working relationship with Oracle, specifically their high-enddatabase servers. In 1993 they added the Symmetry 2000/x90 along withtheir ptx/Cluster software, which added various high availabilityfeatures and introduced custom support for Oracle Parallel Server.

(Jim Gray whose manywritings fueled the fire)
