朱宣咸生平

        朱宣咸(1927年浙江——2002年重庆),中国画画家、木刻版画家、漫画家与美术活动家。

        20世纪40年代初起从事中国画,中国新兴木刻版画与时政漫画;半个多世纪以来,创作了一大批洋溢着鲜明的艺术精神,充满着鲜明的时代感与社会性的中国画、木刻版画、时政漫画、插画、水粉画、水彩画、连环画等作品,并被中国美术馆及各地美术馆、博物馆等收藏,被《中国年鉴》,《中国百年版画》等大型文献收录;从1946年到2002年作品多次入选国内外一系列重要展览并获奖,其作品所体现出的艺术风貌、学术性与多元性被《人民日报》等主要媒体专题评论,发表作品数千次;出版有《朱宣咸作品选》,《朱宣咸花鸟画选辑》,《朱宣咸木刻版画集》,《朱宣咸风景木刻版画选辑》,《朱宣咸漫画》,《艺术常青——美术家朱宣咸》等;由文化、新闻、出版等六单位曾联合主办“朱宣咸从艺五十五年画展”;生平被载入《中国美术辞典》等国家级辞书。

        年轻时就投身人民美术事业和进步学生运动的朱宣咸,早年从浙江到上海直接参与鲁迅先生的新文化运动与新兴木刻版画运动。1946年加入中华全国木刻协会,1948年在近代史上著名的“《观察》事件”中被捕;后与刘开渠、杨可扬、张乐平、(郑)野夫、庞薰琹等代表上海美术界在《大公报》发表迎接解放的“联合宣言”;同时,进入中华全国美术协会、中华全国木刻协会、中华全国漫画协会“联合办事处”,参与了上海解放初期美术事业的筹备建设工作;此后,参加中国人民解放军,1949年底随军到重庆。1951年起任中华全国美术工作者协会(今中国美术家协会前身)重庆执委,重庆市第一届文代会委员;中国美术家协会会员,在重庆市美术家协会成立时被选举为首任常务副主席兼秘书长;是成立重庆市美术家协会的筹备人,是成立重庆国画院的发起人、后任顾问,是成立重庆美专校的创始人、校长。长期以来,朱宣咸正直无私的先后担任了重庆市的新闻、文化、教育、出版系统的美术领导工作,作为1949年建国后重庆美术事业的重要开拓者,对于建立、推动和促进尤其是重庆在20世纪中期与后期美术事业的繁荣与发展方面作出了重要的贡献;曾被政府授予“献给共和国创立者”勋章。

A Life of Zhu Xuanxian

ZHU Xuanxian, 1927(Zhejiang)—2002(Chongqing), is an artist of traditional Chinese painting, woodcut and caricature, and also an activist in fine arts.

He started the creation of traditional Chinese paintings, new Chinese woodcut works and political caricatures in early 1940s. During his art career of more than half a century, he has created many of traditional Chinese paintings, woodcuts and caricatures, as well as illustrations, watercolors, gouaches and comic strips, many of which have been collected by National Art Museum of China as well as other fine arts galleries and museums all around China, and covered by other large publications such as China Yearbook and Chinese Graphic in 100 Years. From 1946 to 2002, his works have been exhibited in a series of national fine arts exhibitions many times, and thousands of his works were published and specially commented by many mainstream media like The People’s Daily; he published a series of collections, including  Selected Art Works by Zhu Xuanxian, Chinese Paintings of Flower and Bird by Zhu Xuanxian (Selected Collection), Collection of Woodcuts by Zhu Xuanxian, Selected Collection of Landscape Woodcuts by Zhu Xuanxian, Caricature Works by Zhu Xuanxian and ZHU Xuanxian, A Master of Brush Evergreen (Ever-green Art—Artist Zhu Xuanxian). The 6 organizations concerning culture, media and publishing jointly sponsored an exhibition titled the “Art Exhibition to Celebrate Zhu Xuanxian’s 55—Year Art Career”, and his biography was covered by many nation-level dictionaries such as Chinese Fine Arts Dictionary.
 
Zhu Xuanxian, plunging into the people’s art cause and the progressive student movement in his youth, directly participated in the New Culture Movement and the New Woodcut Movement initiated by Lu Xun from Zhejiang to Shanghai, and became a member of the National Woodcut Association of China in 1946, and was imprisoned in the famous Observation Event in the modern history of China in 1948. After that, on behalf of the fine art community of Shanghai, he publicized the Joint Announcement together with Liu Kaiqu, Yang Keyang, Zhang Leping, (Zheng) Ye Fu and Pang Xunqín etc. on Ta Kung Pao to welcome the liberation of Shanghai. Afterwards, he joined the “Joint Office” of National Fine Arts Association of China, National Woodcut Association of China and National Caricature Association of China, and participated in the preparatory work for Shanghai’s fine arts society in the early years of liberation. After that he joined the People’s Liberation Army, and later went to Chongqing with the army at the end of 1949. He was appointed as an executive committee member of China National Artists Association (the former name of China Artists Association) Chongqing Branch in 1951; and was selected a member of the First Session of Chongqing Federation of Literary and Art Circles , a member of China Artists Association and a member of China Graphic Artists Association. As was elected the executive vice chairman and the secretary general of the First Session of Chongqing Artists Association, he acted as the initiator of Chongqing Artists Association, a sponsor and later an advisor of Chongqing Academy of Traditional Chinese Painting and the founder and the principal of Chongqing Fine Arts School. For a long time, with the outstanding performance and integrity, he had selflessly led the art work in press, culture, education and publication fields of Chongqing. As an important pioneer of  Chongqing’ s art cause since the foundation of the P.R.C in 1949, he made great contribution to the establishment and promotion, especially the development and prosperity of Chongqing’s art cause in the mid and later years of 20th century. He was once awarded the medal “For the Founders of the P.R.C.” by the government.
