一个小保安要考

翻译学研究生

胡新宇来自湖北大冶，现在是广外大学城校区的一名普普通通的保安，然而，正是这名上世纪90年代初高考落榜的保安，今年却要考研，而且专业还是广外高级翻译学院的翻译学硕士。

生于1970年的胡新宇，有着3次高考的经历。391分、361分、358分，一次比一次差的成绩让他彻底结束了高考的日子。

1991年，胡新宇开始走上社会，在当地的一个建筑工地上做小工，挑砖和提泥浆是他主要的活计。1993年开始，胡新宇走出大冶，开始到沿海打工，从福建到广州，从武汉到深圳，再后来，胡新宇先后到了惠州海关做搬运工，在广州上下九洗碗等，十几年里，一路漂泊。

学英语从疯狂英语开始

2002年，胡新宇开始接触李阳的疯狂英语。“当时李阳在中央电视台表演，我就买了一些书和磁带，包括《脱口而出》第一、二册。”李阳的疯狂英语培养了胡新宇学英语的兴趣。

2004年，胡新宇在培正商学院做宿管，虽然工资不高，但是培正商学院外国人很多，有机会与83个外教接触。“我跟他们关系不错，晚上上口语课，我会去旁听，很多外教都欢迎我去听。”

第一次自考三科全过添信心

受一位老乡的影响，胡新宇2003年7月开始报名参加自学考试，他报的专业是英语专业（专科），第一次报了三科，让他始料未及的是，三门功课全部通过，专业课还拿到82分的高分。“第一次过了3门，觉得有一个好的开始，就有了信心坚持下来。”

2004年4月，胡新宇第二次参加自考，报了4门专业课，但只有一门通过。其中有两门专业课非常难，《英语国家概况》和《综合英语》（二），胡新宇都分别考了三次才通过。就这样，胡新宇考完了13门专科段课程，并拿到了自考专科毕业证。本科段10门课程的最后一门课程《高级听力与口译》也于今年11月1日考完。

37岁报考广外研究生失利

2007年11月，胡新宇第一次报考研究生，2008年1月考试。“我报的专业是广外高级翻译学院的翻译学硕士（会议同声传译方向），我是同等学力报考，考4门，分别是政治、第二外语（日语）、翻译与写作、英语水平。”胡新宇表示，准备得不够充分，有点吃力，成绩排名414名。“对于我参加自考和研究生考试，周围的同事也有很多说法，有的人认为年纪这么大了，有点不可思议，去年我报名时是37岁，我也想检验一下自己的能力。”

明年39岁将最后一搏

“今年，我已经网报了2009年的研究生考试。这是我最后一次参加考研了，因为明年我就39岁，没机会了。”胡新宇说，他会尽最大努力去争取，但对结果他不敢奢望。对于未来，胡新宇希望以英语作为职业，当一名老师。目前他希望在广州拿一个教师资格证，“然后回家当老师，这样可以照顾小孩。”    文/图：记者 邓仲谋

他这样学习

向学生学习：2006年，胡新宇到广东外语外贸大学大学城校区做保安。“在广外我可以利用校园网，有听力资源，可以与学生练发音。”在广外专线的公交车上，胡新宇听到一个学生用英语流利地打电话，就向他请教学习。“刚开始时，我用QQ和MSN跟他聊，他不太愿意，认为浪费时间。后来我常带给他一些小礼物，请他吃饭，前几天还给他看我的学习资料，让他订正一下。”

用网络学习：在网上，胡新宇有一个博客“黄石的孩子”，在这个博客空间里，最显眼的要数那些链接了。有听力与口译方面的、日语方面的，有自学考试的、考研的，有词典，还有网络课程等。胡新宇说，他最早利用网络是2003年，室友有台电脑，可以从网上下载一些资料，利用“听力特快”练听力。

HU Xin yu, from Hubei Daye,  is now  a ordinary security in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. however, who in the beginning of the 1990s failed the college entrance examination , but attended this year's postgraduate admission exam and professional is master's degree of the High Translation Studies .

HU Xin yu was born in 1970, has gone through the college entrance examination by 3 times. 391 points, 361 points, 358 points seperately,due to the poor results which so thoroughly put an end to his college entrance examination .

In 1991, Matthew (Hu xin Yu's English name) began to embark on the community, with a local builder to do some job, pick brick and mud to be his main manual labor. 1993, Matthew  out of Daye and began to work along the coast, from Fujian Province to Guangzhou, from Wuhan to Shenzhen, and then later, Matthew has to do porters in Huizhou Customs , washing dishes in Shang Xiajiu in Guangzhou. Such life more than a decade , Drifting all the way.

Crazy English, to learn English from the beginning

In 2002, Matthew came into contact with Li Yang's Crazy English. "At that time, Li Yang at the China Central Television shows, I bought some books and tapes, including" blurt out 1-2." Li Yang's Crazy English trained HU Xin yu's interest in learning English.

In 2004, Matthew worked in the Pui Ching School of Business as a dorm administrator while wages are not high, but the Pui Ching School of Business, employed many foreigners, have the opportunity to contact with the 83 foreign teachers. "I have good relations with them, on the evening of spoken language lessons, I will attend to listen to and many foreign teachers are welcome  me."

 First three courses set full confidence over him

by the impact of a fellow of Matthew's, in July 2003  Hu began to register for selftaught examination, in the  English major , for the first time  the three subjects he ordered, all  passed, the major course also get the high score of 82 points. "After the first 3, that there is a good starting, and there is a confidence persevered."

In April 2004, for the second time to participate in Selftaugh Test, HU Xin-yu, ordered  4 courses, but only passed one. Among them, two courses are very difficult, "the English-speaking countries profile" and "Comprehensive English (2)", Matthew separately passed the test by three times. In this way, Matthew finished the 13  specialities courses and received diploma of Selftaught. Undergraduate courses  left 1/10 , the final course  as  "high-level hearing and the interpretation" he finished it on November 1.

37-year-old graduate student took defeat

In November 2007, HU Xin yu  ordered the first postgraduate admission examination and attended it in January 2008 . "I ordered the professional of Translation Studies master's degree (with in the direction of the meeting simultaneous interpretation), I took part in test 4, including political, the second foreign language (Japanese), translation and writing, English proficiency . "Matthew said, due to insufficient preparation, a little bit difficult, results ranked 414. "I took part in the Selftaught and postgraduate admission exams, in my colleagues around , some people think im so much older, a little strange. last year, when I was 37-year-old , I would also like to test my ability."

39-year-old, next year will be the last year to give it a try

"This year, I have ordered a netbased post-graduate examinations in 2009. This is my last time to participate in the study section, because next year I have 39-year-old, had no chance." HU Xin yu said that he will do his best to fight for, but the results he would not venture to expect. As for the future, Matthew hopes to make English as a career, become a teacher. He hopes to get a  teacher license in Guangzhou, and then go home, so he can take care of his child.

How he study

To the students: in 2006, HU Xin-yu come to the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in University town campus as a security stuff. "I can use of campus network, especially hearing resources, and   practice pronunciation with students." Once in a Guangwai bus, Matthew heard a student fluent in English call and  ask to learn from him  "At first, I used MSN and QQ , and he is not willing to chat with me and think it is  a waste of time. Later, I often gave him some small gifts, invite him to dinner. a few days before he returned to look at my learning, so that He revised my works. "

Learning to use the network: in the Internet, HU Xin-yu has a blog, named "the Children of Huang Shi".in the blog space, the most prominent links is a number of those. Hearing with regard to the interpretation, the Japanese side, a self-examination,  the dictionaries, and courses Internetbased. HU Xin-yu said that he  used of the Internet in 2003, as his roommate had a computer, and he  can download some information from the Internet,  benifit from the website  "Listening Express" to practice listening .
