Several leading investment banks plan to boost hiring globally in 2006 in an effort to expand those businesses that helped produce bumper profits this year.

The securities industry has generated bumper profits in the last few years, benefiting from strong revenues in fixed income, currency and commodity markets. This year, many also received a significant boost from their equity and merger and acquisition departments. “We’ll start 2006 hiring,” said Dave Goldfarb, Lehman’s chief administrative officer, adding that the bank would hire “across all business segments and regions”.
