Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada Saturday arrived in India on a two-day visit to discuss issues relating to bilateral civil nuclear cooperation.

"India-Japan relations have undergone a significant and qualitative shift in recent years. Okada is slated to hold talks with his counterpart, S.M. Krishna, during the two-day state visit. Both sides have expressed resolve to enhance our mutually beneficial strategic and global partnership," a statement from the Indian External Affairs Ministry said.

His visit came a day after India's Cabinet of Ministers cleared a draft law that will pave the way for foreign companies to build nuclear reactors in this country.

During the talks between Krishna and Okada, the two sides will also review plans for reviving the bid by G-4 (India, Japan, Brazil and Germany) along with African countries for permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council, sources said.

Japan is the sixth-largest foreign investor in India.
