That is to say, we have to pay more attention to practical communicating ability instead of only laying emphasis on the grammatical correctness. (2).Try to find some partners practicing oral English together and English corner is a good place as where we may exchange English study experience, widen our sight and improve interest in English. (3). If English partners are not easy to get, then we have to create an English environment ourselves by speaking English to ourselves. *(4).This method is very effective and easy to insist on-- interpreting Chinese-English novels or books. First we read the Chinese parts and then try to interpret them into English and then compare our interpretation with the original versions in the novels or books so that we can find out the mistakes, shortcomings and progresses in our interpretation. (5). Interpreting what you hear---Changing Roles: Three people make a group: one speaks Chinese, one speaks English acting as the foreigner, one acts as interpreter. Then change roles. This is a good interpreting training method and is good for studying from one another. In addition, it may improve the responding ability and speed of students. The advanced stage of this method is simultaneous interpretation. (6). Oral composition and 3-minute training method: This method is suitable for intense training. Making an oral composition about a certain topic for one minute the first time and record the composition on tape at the same time. Then listen to the composition and find out the room for improvement. Then make the same composition for two minutes for the second time and also record it. And at last repeat the above-mentioned for three minutes. (7). Retelling exercise: Retell some articles or English stories in our own words. (8). If possible, we may read some English tongue twisters loudly and quickly with one or two cakes of candy in our mouth (just as the Chinese cross-talk actors do.) to train our oral cavity muscle and tongues suitable for English pronunciation. 例如: ☆A big black bug bit the back of a big black bear. The big black bear bit back the big black bug. ☆This fish has a thin fin; That fish has a fat fin; This fish is a fish that has a thinner fin than that fish. (9). Paying more attention to phrases and small words as one major shortcoming of Chinese English (especially Chinese oral English) is that Chinese students tend to use big words in their oral language, but the idiomatic oral English is abundant with short, active and vivid phrases. And most of such phrases are made of small words. (10) Thinking in English. (11). Oral English has its own features, but it is closely combined with other aspects of English, for example, writing may make oral English precise and accurate. I am off today. 例如 "I am off." 就是我不上班, 而 "We are off today." .2.She lives off campus. 另外要是有老美跟你说, "I live off Buford Highway." 这就是 off the road 的正确用法啦.3. Off my sofa. 简简单单, 就是 "Off my sofa." 完整的讲法其实应该是 "Keep off my sofa." 或是 "Keep away from my sofa." 但是单讲 "Off my sofa." 许多 off 的用法其实都是从 keep off 或是 get off 演变过来的. 4. Tell her the whole thing is off. 有人要我去通知另一个人球赛已经取消了, 他就是这么跟我说的, "Tell her the whole thing is off." 5. I am off the hook now. 以前小笨霖的室友最喜欢用这个成语了, 例如考试刚考完, 他就会说, "I am off the hook now." 或是把女朋友送走之后, 他也喜欢说, "I am off the hook now."6. My girlfriend and I have been on and off, on and off several times. 在婚礼之前 Rachel 就很感伤地说, "I am Ross have been on and off, on and off; but I feel someday we will be on." Hands off. 也就完全等于 keep your hands off the food 的意思. I am off to bed right now. I‘m off to bed 这种用法远比单说 go to bed 要来得传神, 因为 off 本身就有休息的意思在内, 所以 off to bed 更能反映出上床是要去休息, 而不是上床去作爱作的事.9. You got $20 off your first purchase. 10. Could you off my computer? 介绍最后一种 off 的惯用法, 就是老美常会把 turn off 简称 off, 例如 off my computer 就是指关上我的计算机. 不过奇怪的是, turn off 可以简略成 off, turn on 就没有人简称 on 的. 1. Do you have any pet peeve? 所以就有老美跟我说过, “Everybody has his pet peeve.” 例如我就常听老美抱怨, “Don’t you think he is annoying?” Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think we still have to invest it. 一般人想到冒险, 直觉的反应就是:“It’s risky” 或是 “It’s dangerous.” 但是囗语上老美喜欢说,“I’m going out on a limb.” 这种不确定的危机感, 就是为什麽老美要用 “Go out on a limb.” 例如你来到一个清澈的河边, 你很想下去游泳, 但四周又没有救生员, 这时你就可以说, “Maybe I’m going out on a limb, but I think I am gonna try it.” 3. I don’t have skeleton in my closet. 当然最简单的说法就是“I don’t have any secret in the past.” 但是这样的说法不如俚语的用法 “I don’t have skeleton in my closet” 来得传神。 这件考试作弊就变成是你的 skeleton in the closet。 例如有次我室友不让我进他房里, 我就用这句话亏他,“Do you have any skeleton in your room?” 4. Are you sure you are going to set us up? I can fix you up.” 5. Probably. It’s still up in the air. “I haven’t made my mind yet.” 或是 “We’ll see.”就可以了, 不然的话你也可以小小地卖弄一下英文, “It’s up in the air.” 另外 “It’s up in the air.” 例如别人问你, “Are you dating Jennifer now?” 你就可以答, “It’s up in the air.” Okay. Just checking. Check 当动词用是一般指 “检查” 而言, 例如你想进来时可能忘了关门, 你就可以说, “Go check if the door is still open.” (反正是无关痛痒) 这时你可以说, “Just a though.”; “Just an idea.” 7. Do we need to hit a shower first? 这就代表 “Let’s go.” 8. That’s OK. 你答,“That’s OK.” 记得有一次老美来我家作客, 我问他, “Do you need something to drink?” 他说 “That’s OK.” 就表示 “I’m fine.” I don’t need anything to drink.” 9. Just right place, right time. 所以我也开始不单说, “I’m just lucky.” 了。 例如后来有一次老美问我为什麽我有免费的 T 恤可拿, 我就很潇洒地回答他, “Just right place, right time, no big deal.” 10. Same here. 甚至有些人还会说, “So do I.” 但是说真的, 老美是会说, “me too.” I have to go to bed now.” 所以这个 “same here.” 例如最有名的例子, 在第六感生死恋 (Ghost) 里, Demi Moore 和 Patrick Swayze 的对话, “I love you.” “Ditto.”
